It's the thing living in the center of his head. Can't you see it? It's feasting on something and being held there by the hair on the sides.

It's darker than the rest of his hair. It's scaring me. It's going to give me horrible nightmares. I just know it. And I have bad nightmares as it is (I can't tell you how many times I've died in my dreams).

Thanks a lot for this. I live in fear that it will come creeping up the stairs...

Don't worry about Bill Shatner's hair folks, I've got it on good authority that it's just a very well-trained Tribble!

Hate to admit it, but I actually saw it in a theatre on the big screen. His conversation with Jean Dixon at the end is priceless.

Thanks for the link to those Shatner videos, Richard!

Erich von Däniken my a**. Guys like him are, in my opinion, a major reason for all the woo we have today. Publishing (and selling) a gazillion books for decades, giving readers the impression/semblance of scientific work, has caused a lot of damage.

Just read this quote from a viewer of the video at the youtube site:
all these videos r amazing!! if just finishd reading erich von danikens book "the gold of the gods" it is brilliant and brings up facts that have been lost and hidden by modern human stuipdity! i think we culd learn a lot from aiciant people! one day we will learn it the hard way...

When I was in my late teens , I think, I read a couple of Von Danikens books and was fascinated by them - what an amazing theory I thought - then a little later I read "The Space Gods Revealed" by Ronald Story in which he effectively debunked the entire theory and more , showed what a crook Van Daniken was.

I was taught a lesson that I carry with me to this day.

"Crook" is the nicest word I have for Von Daniken.

One of the things that I never really realized about his books until someone else pointed them out to me was how they contain a profoundly offensive and downright misanthropic premise: Ancient man was too stupid to do anything we've attributed to him without the intervention of aliens.

But I'm not even sure he realized that -- he was just happy with whatever drew attention to him as a "thinker" and not as someone who embezzled from his last job.

Nice one! I could almost hear the delicate sound of thunder.

As for Von Daniken's book "Gold of the Gods", it shouldn't impress anyone. In fact, it's the book whose claims could be more credited with proving Von Daniken's foolishness than any other. I'm speaking, of course, of his claim that a certain cave in Ecuador (Cueva de los Tayos, to be precise) contained within its considerable depths a wealth of all manner of alien artifacts, including a neeto-keeno "library", consisting of dozens of books with scribed metal pages. And lots and lots of gold. He claimed to have been there, and seen and touched all of these things. They were incontrovertible proof, once and for all, that Von Daniken was right.

The claim was so spectacular that someone organized a massive exploration of this cave in the 70's. Lots of people (as in, like 80 or so) joined in including, IIRC, Buzz Aldrin of all people.

Guess what they found?

A big, dark cave.

There was a UK TV documentary in the late 70s or early 80s where he was apparently uncovering remarkable small stones that quite clearly and explicitly appeared to depict images of open heart surgery - then they were traced to a tribesman in a nearby village who was producing them and passing on to VonD to reveal to the world.

In all fairness, I must insist that people visit the Erich von Däniken (http://www.daniken.com/e/) website, read through it, and judge for themselves. I mean, so far no-one has mentioned that he has started a theme park.

It's true!

Then there's his theory of Astrosociobiology (http://www.answers.com/topic/astrosociobiology), which is the speculative scientific study of extraterrestrial civilizations and their possible social characteristics and developmental tendencies.

Ooo... Ahh...

He also claims that entropy drives evolution to higher levels of complexity for the sole purpose of disseminating energy gradients.

But wait, there's more!

Erich von Däniken has uncovered the secrets of levitation (http://paranormal.about.com/library/weekly/aa031901a.htm)! Yes, the true means by which the pyramids were built!

Can I get a witness?

No?

Never mind.

Don't miss the picture on the index page of Däniken's website (http://www.daniken.com/).

I wonder why they chose a picture where Däniken makes such a tense face.

I read some of Van Daniken's stuff when I was a teenager. I remember being envious of all the cool places he went and all the cool things he saw and photographed. I also remember thinking "Cool pics. Stop with the crap and just tell me where they were taken."

Say what you will about Van Daniken, he really got to some cool places and took pictures of really interesting stuff.

Actually... Mystery Park closed it's doors about three months ago... thereby disproving the theory that you'll never go broke overestimating human stupidity.

Mystery Park is closed?

I guess EvD should have known that those cries of "WOO!" were not coming from any thrill rides.
