The German TV station "Sat1" runs our version of "Deal or no Deal", and the show is going to have an alleged psychic going for the money. The trailers suggest that at some point the suitcase worth 1c will be opened. The psychic seems to be playing with the aid of her tarot cards, too.
The show is on either tonight at 19:15 or tomorrow at the same time. (Various program guides say it's today - but the teaser they keep repeating claims it's tomorrow. Way to go predicting the future like that!)

Keep us informed! When they tried it here in Australia, the psychic picked the $5.00 suitcase...or something like that.

hmm...this just proves the psychics right. Now they can say; "See? We always said we couldn't use our powers for personal gain!"

I missed it - serves me right for ever turning off my TV. There should be a rerun next week, though. I will try and remember that; in the meantime I'll see what I can find about the show.

negative psi. You know, performing statistically significantly below chance is still significant.

I used to work with someone who claimed to be a medium. When I asked why he didn’t predict lottery numbers or win any substantial bets on horseracing the reply was “It would be unethical to use my powers for gain in that way”.
I imagine the psychics who fail on game shows will use the same excuse. ;)

I hear that with 5 suitcases or so to go the bank was offering 1,000 Euros.

When there was only two cases left, she accurately "sensed" that the one she picked contained only 50 c, never mind that she initially "sensed" it contained two million!
I think the best to come of this show is, that none of the participants can ever claim that they are not interested in using their "powers" to win a huge amount of cash. Go get 'em, they're fair game. :D

Are you suggesting that simply by choosing a small number that the contestant has performed in a statistically significant way?
Or are you joking?

In this show, ALL the contestants were "psychic"!These bozos couldn't have done worse if they were trying! I loved the guy who said his dead mother was sitting next to him telling him the amount in the case and got it wrong.
This show was so goofy it could be a parody of psychics on a game show.
At least 80% of the audience thought it was a bunch of baloney. No doubt the other 20% and the goofball psychics themselves will remain convinced of their powers despite thier dismal performance.
That annoying host guy should be shot in the face and left for dead. What an assclown.

Yes, I can see how someone with true psychic abilities would choose a small-valued suitcase over a large-valued one, given that they are both just as easy to choose and both would be statistically significant. A large-valued one would only lead to wealth and more wealth, whereas a small-valued one would lead to worldwide YouTube ridicule.
Of course that choice is obvious.

I just watched the rerun. It was a major dissapointment in many, many ways.
They didn't really make any kind of deal (ha!) out of her alleged abilities. From memory:
She lost the top price of 250,000 Euros early on with a few other high amounts.
She continued playing and she also lost the 150,00 Euros that she still had left. She still continued playing, in the end she could trade a possible 7,500 Euros against somewhere around 3,500 Euros. (the other remaining suitcase hadonly 100 Euro) She made the trade and then discovered that she initially picked the 7,500.
She initially claimed that she had asked the cards if she would get on the show and she had seen "luck", but she wouldn't ask the cards if she would win due to her being superstitious. When asked earlier during the show, she said her ability couldn't just be turned on or off like a light switch and it would be very difficult to do things for herself.
If anyone cares to see the exact course of the show I'll force myself to watch it again...

:s2:
Screw those psychics and their lame a** excuses. I'm sick and tired of it. In the other thread, regarding that psychic explaining why she needs to charge for her "services", she compares herself to artists, lawyers, doctors, carpenters, whatever.
They only seem to miss one very important point: Should a doctor screw up during heart surgery and instead remove the liver, I daresay he won't make lame excuses like "Sorry man, do you think I can turn on or off my ability like a light switch?". And the carpenter, making a table with one leg, will say "Hey, I never claimed to be 100% accurate, okay!".

Neither, I suspect, would any table end up with three legs just because it's meant to go into the carpenter's own living room...
