I suspect that there have been over 10,000 published or publicly disseminated statements from Christian 'scholars' that the end times were occurring. It started with oral history in 50 C.E., then moved in written form with the author of 2 Peter (writing in probably 60 C.E.), continued with the authors of Matt and Luke (writing in probably 80 - 90 C.E.), was stated a dozen times in Revelations (written in probably 90 C.E.) and then repeatedly asserted about every five years from 100 C.E. onward over the last 2,000 years.
My question to you (and others) is:
At what point will Christians concede that the promised second coming and end times was the rantings of people squashed by the Romans and Jewish orthodoxy, rather than a true prophesy?
In the year 2050 (when you're 65, BilliFan), will you concede this?
In the year 2550, will most Christians concede this?
In the year 3550, will most Christians concede this?
Billie - At what point should Christians concede this? - Ever?
And when you do concede this, BilliFan, will it shake other closely-held 'Buy-Bull' beliefs?
While I never expect an end to religion, I'd think literalists/fundamentalists will eventually be extremely marginalized on this ground - probably in 1,000 years. I'm just sad that I probably won't live to see it.

When does the statute of limitations expire on apocalypse predictions? Here are over 200 of them (http://holtz.org/Library/Social%20Science/Futurology/Apocalypse%20Predictions.htm) (1988 was a popular year for them). Billiefan has some work to do if he is going to top the Jehovah's Witnesses record of nine failed predictions.

The woo woo Xians will never give up. The will always juggle their numbers and since its a faith question, they will never give up their belief about the end times.
I guess some people with small minds need to believe in larger things.

You ever read 2nd Peter 3:8-10:
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.
The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
I cant concede what I and many others to believe to be and know is the truth.
ISRAEL being a Nation again since 1948 is fulfillment of PROPHECY and that is why Christians will never concede.

Wow
You are a knucklehead
Too bad you don't read the Bible in full. 2 Peter 3 is one of my favorite Chapters.
I've posted it several times, but you never respond - let me try again.
2 Peter 3 says "yeah, we know, people are scoffing at us saying Jesus promised to return soon, and it has been decades since he made that promise. But don't worry, it really is coming soon. It'll come for you folks that I'm writing to."
This was written in 80 - 90 C.E. 1900 years ago!
The author isn't saying "it'll be in thousands of years from then." He's saying "Yeah, I know its been 50+ years, but really, it'll be any day now. Any day know, Jesus will return. I mean it. It may be tonight. Just wait.
and wait
and wait
and wait

Now, why do I get the feeling that this mainly has only been a cut and paste job, too?

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find...
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do, or say
Is in the pill you took today
In the year 4545
Ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to do
Nobody's gonna look at you
In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs not nothing to do
Some machine is doing that for you
In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long black tube
In the year 7510
If God's a-comin' he ought to make it by then
Maybe he'll look around himself and say
Guess it's time for the Judgement day
In the year 8510
God's gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say ``I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down and start again
In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man's gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing...
Now it's been 10,000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through
But through the eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday...

Jeez... I thought it was the Moody Blues that did that song.
Sorry, but Gregor's time-line chant made me think of this...
:D
Edit: I just noticed they ran out of rhymes for 7575 and 8585... lamers. Sheesh.

I'd be willing to bet money (a lot of money) and say that your faith is illfounded.

ISRAEL being a Nation again since 1948 is fulfillment of PROPHECY and that is why Christians will never concede. So one coincidence, after nearly 2,000 years, caused and sustained not by devine means but through human effort and loss is all you need, huh? What about all the other things that didn't happen?
