DALLAS -- Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders is battling an automotive shop over what he says Jesus told him to pay for a repair bill.

The owner of the repair shop says Sanders wanted to pay only $1,500 of the $4,265.57 bill, saying that Jesus had informed him that was all he needed to pay.

"It's the 'Praise Jesus' discount,'' attorney Ed Edson told The Dallas Morning News in Monday's editions. . .

. . . Anthony Montoya, a representative for Sanders, had contacted Compton and told him a 1961 Lincoln Continental convertible needed to be towed to his shop for repairs. The car had been repaired before by Compton.

When Sanders drove up, he refused to pay the invoice amount, handing Compton a $1,500 check and saying, "Praise Jesus ... I follow what in my heart I'm told to pay.''

He's from Florida. He just played Pro ball in Texas. Maybe he could go back to Florida and have his pal Jesus help Jeb Bush balance their budget.

It doesn't matter where is is originally from. The article says he play for the Cowboys. That's all it takes for some to say that he is from Texas and all Texans act like that.

A judge ruled that Sanders does not need to pay the $4K bill. Sanders told the mechanic that the repairs have a $1500 ceiling. The mechanic willfully surpassed that amount.

Refusing to pay for repairs that exceeded the estimate and were done without authorization is a perfectly legitimate consumer gripe. BUT.... why did he bring "Jesus" into it? Did he consult an eponymous Hispanic mechanic who told him the repairs were excessive/unauthorized?:D

And the media blew it out of proportion because it's Deion Sanders.
