View Full Version : "Left Behind" - it's not just a book, it's a cottage industry.

LeftBehind.com (http://www.leftbehind.com/) offers books, tapes, and video to help you understand the coming Rapture. For $45, you can subscribe to the "Prophecy Club" and receive weekly updates on how close the world is to having the truly faithful rise up to heaven.
I am unsure why a believer who thinks the end times are at hand would want to spend money on a Left Behind mug or why people who are confident of the nearness of the Rapture need to charge money - they can't take it with them.

Stan Johnson
The Prophecy Club hosted by Mr. Johnson is one of the most error prone prophetic ministries in history.
Johnson is very much a promoter of pop-apologetics.
This where you have sensationalism and speculation replacing Biblical truth.

One set of fairy tales is pretty much like any other set of fairy tales if you ask me.

You can't see them but you can measure their effects. You can define them. You can do all sorts of things to objectively show that they exist. The same can't be said of God or your 'biblical truth'

No one on earth who doesnt believe in things they cant see is ignorant. We know gravity exists because we can test it exists, we know how it works, and we know why it exists.
Oxygen. We know it exists. We can test to see if it exists. We know how it exists.
God. Scientifically implausible. In all tests, no suggestions of gods existance is remotely evident.

No, they are not. And even the most zealous believer in Bible-truth will have to see that.
My sitting in front of my computer is nowhere mentioned in the Bible and yet it is true.

I wonder if we should start an unintentional irony award. No wait, one of my misspellings would make me a lock to win each month.
Need to give you a little credit though billie. Stan has promoted everyone from:
Kent Hovind - 'nuff said.
Hayseed Stevens - a shyster trying to get money to drill or oil in Israel.
Ron Wyatt - Indiana Jones wanna be.
and every kook and nut that promised armageddon during Y2K. Good for you for not buying his load of bull.

I place Herb's interpretations of current events as fufilled Bible prophecies at about the same level as those that claim current events to be fufilled Nostradamus prophecies. When your interpretations can be as wide ranging as "seven horns represent seven empires, ten horns represent ten countries (Europe), and two horns represent a person," then you have enough latitude to say pretty much anything you want.
I've heard the Revered Farakahn describe the measurements of the Washington Monument as prophecy and then go on to claim these prophecies as being fufilled.
I see no reason to place Fulfilled Prohecy.Com apart from the other "error-prone prophetic ministries."

Would that be the Biblical Truth that teaches us that Pi=3?
KI1 7:23 And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.
Cthulhu will devour you for this foolish boast Billiefan.

In the eBook Usenet groups, every other week someone "requests" a post of the "Left Behind" books and someone dutifully posts them. I have never been able to verify but I suspect it's the same requester/poster.
I downloaded them by mistake and started reading the first one one. Very preachy, and no erotica whatsoever. I now have a kill-filter based on "LaHaye" the author.
Somehow I would feel "rapturous" if god snatched all his minions on earth.

Emsworth is right. After the Rapture, when we go to loot the goober's houses, instead of money all we will find is stacks of novelty coffee mugs.
Can't they at least buy Left-Behind Lexuses and digital televisions?

Can't they at least buy Left-Behind Lexuses and digital televisions? I'm afraid there's going to be a lot of dissapointed people left behind.
Don't most of these people live in trailor parks?....
If you're going to loot someones elses stuff---don't you want it to be at least as good as the stuff you have now????.....
I drive an Accord......I wouldn't mind having a Jaguar or a Beemer.
I'm not interested in someone elses Dodge Neon though.
Mountains of cheap jewelry----religious artifacts------Elvis memorabilia...................No thanks-----I'm happier with my own stuff................
