Ooops, silly me. I thought the thread title was Mel Gibson, the passionate trailer of me. I was afraid that billiefan had a celebrity stalker.

On a serious note, I've seen about 15 or 20 Passion Plays (I mean Passion Plays as in the story of Jesus, you pervert!) Why should this one be any different? I mean, there are only so many ways that you can serve tuna fish and tomatoes.

no, no, no. it will have to be a movie about Azathoth, since Cthulhu is merely Azathoth's high priest. you keep making this error. ;)

In the picture I saw, Jebus was hanging by his hands. Crucifiction was not performed through the hands. Crucifiction was performed through the wrist bones. The whole 'hands' thing came from Medieval paintings by artists who didn't know squat. This is why stigmata is so funny to me. These people are bleeding from the hands 'just like Jesus', but Jesus didn't bleed from the hands.
Much of Christian imagery comes from Medieval artists creating works of art, but using familiar surroundings. For instance, if this movie shows the Last Supper with all of them sitting around a table, I'm going to throw my Milk Duds at the screen.

that's not quite true. crucifixion was performed slightly above the wrist, in the forearm.

With all due respect to Azathoth, I will confine my comments to Cthulhu, as his existence has been proven.

This doesn't bother me all that much. Gibson's also creating a work of art, so if he adopts some venerable artistic conventions, so what? I wouldn't throw Milk Duds at a medieval painting for that.
The stigmata point is interesting! But regardless of the explanation for stigmata (self-inflicted, psychosomatic or a sign from God) it makes sense for stigmatics to bleed in a way that they can comprehend as symbolizing Jesus' wounds (as they believe them to be from seeing medieval paintings and such).
Anyhow, I think the pictures are fairly good. Decent production value, at any rate. I wonder where this was filmed? The exteriors look great.

I'll probably see it. I think Biblical stories are great, even if they are just stories. Looks like a real visual feast, though.

It would be neat if he made it as real as possible. (clothes, traditions, etc) It would give xians something different to think about. (Stir up their little world)

But it would have been more believable if stigmatas bled from the forearms, BEFORE it was known that that is where they SHOULD bleed from. As it is now - it is a testimony to the power of the mind. Definitely not a sign from god since it is wrong.

My point there was that a symbol isn't much use if it's not understandable. God (let's make an assumption here) giving the stigmata on someone's lower forearms is not going to operate as an intelligible sign for most people. If I were God and wanted to give my believers a sign, and I knew they (mistakenly) associated bleeding palms with the Crucifixion, I'd get my point across by causing their palms to bleed, not their forearms.

Gee, if I was God and wanted to get that involved, I would have made midieval painters get it right in the first place.

While you were at it, you could have made medieval folks get a lot of other things right as well.

So if any of us bleed from the anus, this will be a sign that we are associating with pagans who were impaled. hmmm. Would God be doing that or that guy Max talks about: Chilupa? :)
