One of our local radio stations is running a remote viewing "experiment" tonight with the aid of the listeners (and that might include you, wherever you are).

From their blurb,

"Pete Price: A Remote Viewing Experiment:

I’ve decided to try an experiment on my show in March. It’s an experiment that has never been attempted before on radio, anywhere in the world. I’ve put this experiment idea to my bosses and they’ve given it a lot of consideration, and they’ve finally okayed the idea - but there is a risk factor, so that’s why I’m being upfront about this with you now, because I’m worried something will go wrong. This experiment is to do with the paranormal – the supernatural, and there are certain broadcasting laws which we have to observe, and we’ve got to be very careful what we broadcast. As I say, this is a first for anywhere in the world.

What I’m going to do is involve you, the listener, in an experiment involving your mind. It’s called Remote Viewing, and it’s a very, very controversial subject. On the night the experiment takes place, if you want to get involved, you will have to switch off your television, disconnect your landline, switch off your mobile. Inform people not to call round or to disturb you in any way. All you will have switched on is the radio. You should dim your lights as well if possible. If you’re with a partner, he or she can carry out the experiment with you as well. If you have any children under 18, then please make sure that they DO NOT – repeat: DO NOT get involved in this experiment. If you are on medication for a psychiatric condition, then the same rule applies – DO NOT participate in this experiment.

If you are a nervous person, and things like ghosts and the supernatural play on your mind or give you nightmares, then switch off on the night. Don’t risk getting involved with this experiment, which is the first of its kind. It has never been done on radio before. The experiment could, in theory, open up a door to the world of spirits, and it could also open a can of worms; it’s never been done before and on the night there will be hundreds of thousands of people participating. Anyway, that’s just a warning I thought I’d put out."

So there you have it. This is "Radio City 96.7" in Liverpool between 22:00 and 02:00 GMT. There's a listen live link on their homepage. The crackpot doing the experiment is regular guest crackpot "Tom Slemen". I would like to welcome anyone on here to listen and participate and hopefully even to play along. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that they've arranged for some people to experience 'successful' viewings too...

Not that they're hyping it, or anything like that.

Mind you, asking their listeners to switch off their lights and sit in the dark all evening for no good reason probably wouldn't get the same response.

So far: a tremendous amount of waffle without actually saying anything.

OK, on the basis of a remote viewer's say-so, the US Air Force bombed a research site in the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War? Well, there's something you don't learn every day.

Never been done before? I think it has. A Grateful Dead concert in the 1970s and again by Richard Wiseman on Channel 4 a few years ago.

I don't recall if either of those opened up a door to spirits.

(not having much success listening live, btw)

This strikes me as one of those stock scams, where a person gets a letter every week saying:

"Hi, I'm so and so, and as a stock insider I can tell you that AAA is going to go up this week. You don't need to buy, just check it out."

After 8 weeks the personfinally gets asked for money from the stock wizard, who had simply sent the letter to 256 people. I think they are going to play the numbers on this one. A simple remote viewing experiment I could do on the air would be:

"I want you to draw 5 things on a sheet of paper. This wont work for everyone, but I want you to draw a simple shape, a number between 1 and 5, a simple picuture etc"

I'd then say something like:

"I've drawn a square, the number 2 and a house. Call me and tell me how it went.

I love all the dire warnings of possible danger. I'd say all that's the same as having a brake on a perpetual motion machine or the risk of ODing on a homeopathic.

House fire seems to be a recurring theme too it seems. Pity they don't mention that

Why should we listen online? Why not just use remote listening?

:D

food for thought? All it showed is that people can use google. Dick.

Reno

All these idiots calling in saying they could somehow see the numbah...fourteen.

Somehow? Well maybe that's because the dick doing this 'experiment' said '14 Thingwall lane' when he was nattering on at the start.

Reno

LOL anyone listening to Marie talkin about bats? Astounding!

Reno

Well, I am gobsmacked. That was incredible. Who could have predicted that Kylie Minogue would psychically disrupt the experiment? She may be no bigger than my thumb, but she is a mighty psychic warrior. And so is Yoda.

I am fascinated by the warnings of how dangerous it might be. What harmful results do they expect to come from children and medicated people imagining that they are in another place?

Reno

I think they believe that they are somehow opening a portal to a spirit realm where lots of spirits can whoosh through if kids and medicated people open the portal and can't close it. That makes sense in their world.
