Hello all,

I'm thinking of getting a semi-professional grade camcorder, for personal use and possibly making some professional videos too (capturing some stage performance; making/editing video to market my performing group). The Panasonic DVX-100B would be my first choice, but it's a bit out of my price range (2-3K). I'm currently reading about the Panasonic AG-DVC30, which is under 2K but still has some of the professional bells and whistles of the DVX.

Does anyone have experience with either camera or have a different suggestion? I'm checking online camcorder buying guides, but I thought I'd ask here too.

Thanks!

Jen

I'm not sure where in the price range it is, but have you tried taking a look at the Cannon XL series?

That's a lot of money for a camcorder, I bought one for a mere 250$ although I bargained for it at the store to get the display model so I could save 50$. The video quality isn't the best but since it has the ability to change shutter speeds up to 1/8000, I was able to get what I wanted.

I'd love to have one I could use in the dark, the lens is so small on mine. No UFO videos. :(
