Just curious how many people on this site play world of warcraft.

It is impossible to 'play' WoW. You live it. Precisely the reason I'm not involved with it...

I know when I come home from work a friend of my son will be playing it on the "family" computer. When I go to bed he's still there. When I get up the next morning he's still there. If it weren't for his hands moving I would have poked him with a stick to see if he was still alive.

My then 15 year old son played it almost constantly last year into the summer... when he took a break until a month ago (and now he only plays when his friend is online).

One of the reasons for him taking a break was do to a failed online romance. While he was playing he was hooked up with a headset with headphones and microphone where he communicated with others. One of those others was a young lady in Australia (who could hear me telling my son to get off his machine and come to dinner). They exchanged emails with poetry and photographs. My son asked if he could take a summer trip by himself to Australia! But alas! The young lady broke it off... so the dear boy was a bit heartbroken, and swore off of WoW for several months.

He got over it.

So today he is spending the day at a Junior Classical League conference (Latin clubs for both the state and the Canadian province just north of us)... and then will go to a Swing Dance (taken there by his friends in the Jazz bands, who also plan to dress him --- they also learned how to dance last week at the school with their female friends in the band... it seems they are not so much interested in dancing as much as they are in having contact with female classmates).

There is a strong possibility he will spend Sunday evening play WoW.

Dear mythological god, no! I tend to get addicted to MMORPS, If I started with that I would be damned to an eternity of sitting in front of a computer screen leveling up; all in order to have wizard that still isn’t powerful enough. I’ll stick with single player games for that mere fact that I must continue to have some (albiet) small form of a life.

Besides I got involved with golf, much better to be out doors and far more challenging.

I spent far TOO MUCH time playing Ultima online years and years ago. Glad I was a kid and ran out of money for it. I wanted to be a "lord" but never made it. Now that I'm older I think it's so stupid I wasted all that time clicking on rocks in order to "mine" ore, I literally spent a whole days doing it. Way to waste my life.

I used to play Ultima Online when it was new (I was part of the beta). For those not familiar with UO, it was one of the first massively multi player online games. I played it for about 2 years. I don't even want to think how many hours went into it...

In the end, I had to start a job which didn't really give me the time to play. I sold off the account on eBay and stopped playing.

Since then, I'm not able to play computer games anymore, they just don't hold my interest.

I played it a bit when it was open for Beta testing. Enjoyed it overall.

But, I'm a hard core Asheron's Call fan.

WoW was interesting, but I'm way too invested in AC. Been playing it for 4 or 5 years I guess, and too many things I haven't done yet to leave it. I'll probably play AC till the servers melt down ;)

I played ultima online during beta on the baja server then switched over to napa valley when it opened up. I still have my account and believe it or not there is still has quite a few people that play it even with it's 2d graphics But mainly I play wow on the kel'thuzad server.

Ultima online was so new at the time, I was completely amazed. I played it for 6 months though and thankfully ran out of funding. That was 9 years ago... Damn, time flies.

Yeah, I play WoW. Put a lot of time into it as well, but only have one character over level 30. Suffer from alt disease, as I get bored playing the same character for more than a few days, so I roll a new one. Mainly do it just to pass time. Got a warlock up to 63, but just don’t play as much as I did a few months ago as LARPing season is starting up (fear my powers of geekiness).

I can't play it I find it too addicting. I was lucky though, I recognized the problem early and went cold turkey after only 3 weeks of playing.

I play mostly in the winter as it gets to be dark at 5pm and there is no way I am going outside at -30C unless I have to.

Three of my friends with whom I have a small LAN party every week are avid WoW fans. They got me a € 2 trial account, for two weeks. We played together two friday's. I got a Level 11 Hunter with a pet.
While I recognised some addictiveness in continuously getting to the next level and obtaining new abilities, I also felt a distinct boredom in doing the same thing (killing monsters) over and over again, as well as much running around. Haven't played since, and I don't miss it.

Heavily addicted here.

My wife and I both have 2 lvl 70 (that's the max level) toons and many multiple alts. We play nightly, usually for several hours. At the moment, we're on an extended break, mostly because our raiding guild broke apart, and we need some time out of the game.

Cheers,
TGHO

(To show you how addicted I am, every time I write "TGHO" I have to consciously decide not to write my main toon's name instead.)

Yep, I'm a WOW addict as well.

I can't say I found the drive to get to the next lvl particularly addicting. I think it's more of the social aspect in the game for me. Seems I'm far more willing to converse with people while online, in games like WOW or on the forums here. :)

Don’t be ashamed of playing a female toon. The female gnome has the best “/silly” set in the game, while the female blood elf “undercity” joke is well worth rolling a blood elf for. It’s not like you remove all of your toon’s gear and go dancing on top of tables in your skivvies is it?

Wait. Do you take off all your gear and go dancing in your skivvies?

NO! To do that at the drop of a hat I'd need a UI mod called Outfitter (http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=2051) that would have the option to instantly dress you in your 'birthday suit' (http://uifiles.worldofwar.net/upload/pics/Outfitter_20061023.jpg), which, er, I do not have. At all.

70 troll priest, 60 orc hunter, 60 undead mage, 60 troll rogue, various other low-level alts. I've been playing since release.

My justification is simple: WoW has reduced my monthly gaming expenses significantly. I used to buy several new PC or console games a month, beat them handily, then forget about them. WoW never ends, so it's as good as money in the bank, even with the monthly fee.

Also, I've personally met ~35 of the people I regularly play with, so it's as much a social thing for me as it is a game. We share wedding pics and birthdays and pics of new babies (we jokingly refer to them as new lvl 1s).
