View Full Version : Need help with Myspace code for deleting the "Zodiac sign" field

I'm wondering if anyone here can help with codes for myspace, specifically code to delete the "Zodiac sign" field in the "Details" table.

My problem is that I've googled quite a bit, but the only code that works makes the contents of the left-hand column of my page end up half-way down the page.

The code advice is found here:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=146574206

Basically, you delete the "Details" table, then create a new one however you want.

Just a note: there doesn't seem to be any other way to do this using IE. Myspace adds the Zodiac section - you can't enter "none" in any field anywhere.

orphia nay, check out this recent thread (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=76314) on the subject.

There isn't a good fix for it that I know of, but a few people (http://www.myspace.com/truephysic) have managed to remove it, including the Bad Astronomer. (http://www.myspace.com/thebadastronomer)

The fix does something a bit strange to the details section, but hey, no zodiac sign. :)

Thanks Pipirr!

I might use that method if I can't work out this alignment problem.

Have a look at my page: www.myspace.com/orphia_nay

You can see the problem, but the Zodiac field is gone, and my Details are how I want them.

Any ideas on some sort of code for aligning that side of the page to the top again?

omg, I know nothing about codes, html, or other tech stuff, but I know a lot of atheists on MySpace who would LOVE to get rid of that zodiac field in their profiles. If you can spell it out for the tech-stupid, I would greatly appreciate it.

In fact... I am supposed to be working on creating MySpace pages for two nonbelief groups, and I sure could use a volunteer to hand this project over to, since I'm not tech-savvy enough to handle it... PM me if you'd like to help; I can provide the text and details if you can make it all pretty and stuff.

Did you add the last piece of code to the end of the 'heroes' section?

</td></tr></table></br>
</td><td><div class="hidethem"><table><tr><td><table><tr><td>

I couldn't see it in the source for your page.

Not much more help, really. I don't speak myspace html. But some might argue that neither does myspace...

Exercise in futility:

Even if you remove the zodiac sign from the front page, it still shows up in your blog entries.

Damn you, ancient Babylonians!

Meh, no-one reads the blogs anyway. ;) :)

Update: Success!

I sent a message to Perpetual Progress about the problem, and they sorted it out, and updated their page. (There was one too many </table> codes at the start of the code they had in the Heroes section.)

Go here for details of how to delete the Zodiac sign field and rebuild your Details section:

Good job! Your page looks good.

I emailed myspace today (customer service) to ask if the zodiac sign thing could be optional. It's probably another exercise in futility, but they should at least know that some of us find it annoying.

Thanks, Pipirr!

I emailed Myspace's Customer Service too, saying "Please make the "Zodiac sign" field in the Details table optional".

It may not be futile if a lot of people do it.

ELGS (cool name!), the page details how to get rid of it in a way that seems fairly straightforward to follow.

I've never created or edited a myspace group, and I'm already a member of the Atheists & Agnostics myspace group, but I'd like to take a look at your groups to see if I'd like to help.

Ah... I remember back when Myspace was called GEOCITIES!

I just don't get why they call this stuff "Web 2.0". None of it seems all that new.

Deleting the Zodiac stuff from the blog page is even easier than deleting from the main profile...

Go to "Manage Blog".

Go to "Customize Blog".

Scroll down to Side Module.

Delete the fields you don't want shown. "Sign" is one of them.

It sounds as if you've figured out how to do it on the main profile, but if not, these guys (http://www.myspace.com/perpetualprogressllc) have posted a fairly straightforward way to circumvent. My profile (http://www.myspace.com/keelyandlou) is zodiac-free.

Neato, Chimera! I did not know that.

I got a reply from customer service.

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your comments and suggestions. We consider them important and will take them under advisement.

MySpace.com

It was in reply to this:

Is there a way, or will there in the future be a way, to remove the zodiac sign from the Details section?

A lot of people think it should be optional and not imposed, including scientists, astronomers, christians, skeptics, atheists, humanists, and muslims.

Really anyone who because of religion or rationale thinks that astrology is offensive or just plain ridiculous, and doesn't want to be seen to be condoning it.

Thanks.
