View Full Version : Countering the smear that Al Gore's estate consumes excessive energy.

Report on Gore energy use prompts hate-filled messages (http://www.dailysouthtown.com/news/opinion/guests/342999,161GUC1.article)
The Tennessee Center for Policy Research recently generated headlines when it announced that former Vice President Al Gore's Nashville, Tenn., estate "devoured nearly 221,000 kilowatt-hours" of electricity in 2006, "more than 20 times the national average."
This free-market think tank's phones lit up when it analyzed Nashville Electric Service's public records and identified an inconvenient gap between Gore's conservationism and his energy consumption. The research center's one-page press release was greeted with enough megawatts of hatred to power the South.
"I was accused several times of being a 'stupid, redneck bitch,' " recalls Nicole Williams, who fielded numerous calls. "I repeatedly was called a 'whore' and asked 'Whose whore are you?' for three days straight, almost as if those were talking points ... I was shocked by these sexist insults -- basically attacking my gender."
The calls continued beyond Williams' Nashville office.
"I had to change my home number and get an unlisted number," Williams says.
"I got about 10 death threats by phone. I got the 'I'm gonna get you'-type threats more than 100 times ... I worried I would get shot walking to my car."

I have personally found that calling someone names is the best way to counter their factual arguments.
Is calling someone a "whore" more accecptable than calling them a Ho' ?

Maybe the people you are objecting to simply think of themselves as "mean! Mean!"? Maybe they feel superior, or something.
Why would you object to that, Abdul Alhazred? hmmmm?

Oh, stop hyper-ventilating. It's practically traditional in the USA to give death threats to anyone you don't like, isn't it? BTW, you really show a lot of bias in picking the death threats to whine about; I haven't heard you complaining about the anti-abortion freaks, after all; you do a lot of cherry-picking, don't you?

save the planet method.
Increase albedo of planet by increasing cloud cover to reflect sun. Do this by cloud seeding on global scale. Seed by increased particulates in atmosphere. Require use of wood burning steam engines in all vehicles. Require each human to smoke cigarettes. Ban catalytic convertors. Heat homes by burning old tires.
Heavy tax small cars. Big SUV cars, white or silver, help planet albedo.
Smog good.

Aaaaawwwww, Abdul, I didn't want to hurt your feelings.
:)
It's just that it's very difficult to believe you are only "commenting on something that's in the news", you know, after your last little effort here (http://forums.randi.org/showpost.php?p=2525649&postcount=104) in its full context (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=78841), or after your little effort here. (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=76853) It all just looks so much like you deliberately cherry-picking to make a fallacious implication, and given your failure to denounce death threats elsewhere, or your previous objections to people being asked to have a point (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?p=2503395#post2503395), it just all seems so ........... biased. Not to mention very threadbare.
But hey! if you can actually start making long analytical posts that consist of more than a quote or a smiley or an evasive one-liner, hey, I'm prepared to be persuaded that you actually do have some valid point to make.
Try hard?

And Abdul plays the "he was mean to me so he must be wrong" card again. Nice going, Abdul. Way to use reason and logic.
ETA: Probably worth mentioning that if Cons like you hadn't been acting like jackbooted thugs at the RNC last year, not to mention for the last thirty or so, you might not get quite so many death threats. Cons like to call the cops, or buy them. Libs like to take it to a slightly more personal level.

Nothing of the sort.
Be as mean as you like, but slanderous implications will be noted as such.
Seems like the original post struck a chord.

Actually, there are some who worry about exactly this sort of thing inducing a new ice age. Higher temp = more clouds = higher albedo = crashing temperature.
The geologic record also seems to indicate (last I heard, which was about 10 years ago) that ice ages may come on very fast -- just a few years -- rather than as a result of slow cooling.
So the pieces are all there -- but will they plug together properly? Now throw into the mix that some people want to artificially decrease the amount of energy reaching Earth to stave off global warming. This seems like an idiotically reckless idea to me. The worst of global warming = people move from the seas over the course of a century. The worst of global cooling = new ice age, 4 billion people or more starve to death almost overnight.
Take your pick. Be careful not to "choose poorly".

In case you haven't realised it -- which is only too obvious -- you're only illustrating your lack of seriousness in your own thread. So guess what? Next time you pretend to be serious, and pretend you're only "commenting on news", it's only too easy to refer back to posts of yours like these.
You see, this ain't for you. It's for everyone else. Now you may return to whining about people being "mean" and "slanderous". We need the laugh.

Well in all seriousness, I think there are nut bars on both sides of the political spectrum. And having the reality that Gore may not live the way he preaches might offend some crazies on an almost religious level. Still Gore's living conditions don't mean global warming isn't happening and, atleast for me, don't dilute the seriousness of the issue.

This thread is awesome.
It does have a certain kind of appeal. It's difficult to tell who's being sarcastic and who's being sincere. You can't tell who's feigning being pissed and who's really pissed. Since it's not completely clear that anybody has intentionally said anything substantive it's hard to agree or disagree with anybody.
Personally, I used to think that human caused global warming was probably a serious problem. I have spent some time sifting through what I thought was relevant information on the issue. But now that I see that Gore has used more than 221,000 kilowatt hours to power his personal residence in a year I realize that the whole thing is a complete scam foisted on us by the anti-American, anti-freedom, communist, tree-hugging, hippy, elites.

Thats pretty much how I feel about the whole issue too. It's really petty, the idea that energy conservation begins and ends with gore's household sort of makes me roll my eyes.

Haha, no no, no death threats coming from me as of yet. :) In case you couldn't tell I categorically denounce idiots who would send death threats to any individuals especially those just reporting the truth; even if they have an agenda. Everyone has an agenda. They are the 'nutbars' I spoke of, if you prefer the term 'bigots' you are welcome to it by me. I won't argue as I think in the end we are talking about the same thing.
I think the whole thing with Gore is kind of funny because for me it is just further evidence that there are no gods or saviors among us. We are all flawed we are all human; even Gore. And I think it might be having that realization forced upon them, that the 'nutbars' are responding to.
