I often hear the the spin that Saddam is a madman and he needs to be stopped because he will destory the world. What proof is there that Saddam is mentally ill???

I dont see him a sucidal madman. He knows if he used chem weapons he would be all done. He had his chance to use them in the Gulf War and he chose not to. He couldve gone out in a blaze of glory, but he instead caved and cried uncle. I think he'll do anything to stay in power, or at the least stay alive. He plays the UN like fools but in the end I think he will take the exile option if thats what he has left.

Oh, I'll take some of that action. He has too many enemies to live safely anywhere BUT Iraq. He'll never leave.

Anyone want "Taken Alive" at 25 to 1? I'm a sucker for a long shot.

He has been offered the opportunity for exile in Russia. I believe they could keep him safe. His biggest enemies are either internal to Iraq or in the US and UK. The former could probably not get to him and the latter would likely be satisfed with a resignation and exile. Granted, it would not be very pleasant having to live under guard for the rest of his life, but neither is dying in a bombing raid or being taken captive. The fact that he has not accepted exile implies to me that he thinks he can still escape this war.

Maybe he used them all up on his own people.

Saddam wants locking up and throwing away the key, but he is far saner than his son. Which is better, leave him there or allow his son who is worse to take over? It is the Lesser of two evils.

I was actually thinking of the Kurds and Shiite Muslims, not the US or UK. The Russians have already demonstrated that radical muslims are perfectly capable of striking right in downtown Moscow, as evidenced by Chechen's alleged bombing of apartment buildings and horribly confirmed seizure of the theater.

I don't think Hussein would consider himself safe anywhere.

All he'd have to do is shave off his moustache and no-one would recognise him.
