So sorry if this article was already discussed...a quick search by myself did not turn it up...

Why We Need Religion (http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2007/04/18/why_we_need_religion/?p1=email_to_a_friend)

Here are a few of the highly original ideas in this clown's argument in favor of religion:

-Some ministers in Boston are teaming with cops to help build trust for law officers and combat local violence. Therefore, religion is indispensible.

-Religious groups are the ones helping the poor and starving, not mean selfish atheists. Therefore, religion is indispensible.

-"a world in which religion is banned...is one we have already glimpsed. Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot showed us what lies at the end of that road." I love how those 3 dictators have become the poster children for evil atheism...especially since Hitler was likely a Christian. If you become an atheist, you run the risk of becoming a tyrannical, murderous despot. Therefore, religion is indispensible.

Excuse me...I need to go punch something. I think it will be a poor starving person, 'cuz I'm a terrible secular humanist. Grrr...

If the religion is the truth (little T), then we don't need a reason for it.

If religion is not the truth, then it is what many people believe it is -- just another mechanism for power hungry to get wealth and power. Religion, which is to say hatred of someone else's religion, was used to horrific effect by Hitler. No religion: no religious hatred: no Hitler
