Article from the New York Times. Apparently, male biologists have been so taken with studying the duck penis that they completely forgot to check out what was happening with the females. Luckily, a female biologist takes up the slack.

I dunno...the idea of a phallus that grows and then disappears on an annual cycle kinda' gives me the creeps...

Well it has to, As I don't have a handy duck to reference I have to go by my own anatomy, the drag of pulling one of those through the water would mean that the duck couldn't out swim any predator. frankly I'm surprised they can even fly when there in season! Luckily if they only grow it to mate the actual time they need it is minuscule.
