I can’t make it to TAM2 and I imagine there are a number of others in this boat. However I would like to be virtually present.
How could it work ?
Pay $X, your name goes on a ‘virtually present’ board for all to see and someone gets some nibbles / glass on wine in your name. JREF gets $X less costs and minimal admin.
Maybe even a t-shirt "I wasn’t at the Amaz!ng meeting, and all I got....."
$30 ?

That's a great idea, Colloden. May I suggest that the funds generated could go to those who need financial help? You could be a "virtual presence" regardless of how much you contributed.
Last year I was only able to go due to the generosity of folks. I'm saving money like crazy, because this time I intend to donate something, even if it's only symbolic. :)

So people who are not attending would pay to help people who are attending? I don't think anyone is going to go for that.

Think of it this way AP, if three people who are $300 short, contribute $25 (assuming they could swing it) to someone who's $75 short... one person gets to go instead of all four not going.
At least that's how I could rationalize it.
I'm not sure I'll make it, but I'm skill going to send some money to Girl6 for the Skeperson telethon.

Why, Colloden! You were there virtually with me at the radio show, remember? ;)
Anyway, I know I sound like a broken record, but... If you can't make it or if you have a desire to see someone else make it to TAM, please consider contributing towards the fund to help others.
Skeptics should help other skeptics!

USA: The Penguin is being facetious, as usual. He was one of those who helped me financially last year. :)

Luciana- when a penguin contributes to help an attractive young lady come to a party, he is not necessarily an altruist. Beware!:D

Colloden,
Great idea about a T-Shirt stating
"I wasn't at the Amazing Meeting...."
Good gift for spouses who couldn't make the trip.

Maybe
"I wasn't at the Amazing Meeting, but I viewed the presentations remotely"

I wasn’t at the Amaz!ing meeting but I viewed it remotely.
I wasn’t at the Amaz!ing meeting but foresaw it all anyway.
I wasn’t at the Amaz!ing meeting but I will be in the next life.
