View Full Version : What's What In The 9/11 Truth Movement?

The whole debate has acquired a rather arcane vocabulary and set of acronyms. "MIHOP", "LIHOP", "pancaking", "CD", "squibs", "7/7", "OCT", "no-planers", "LC:FC", "false flag", "Keebler Elves" --- anyone who hasn't been following this will have no idea what you're all talking about. I'm not a CT buff, so I confess I'm often a little baffled myself. Especially when you started talking about elves, I was worried that the Truthers had put something into the water supply.

Even the word "shill", I recently discovered, is apparently unknown to non-Americans.

Could we put together a 9/11 glossary? If so, I'd be happy to put it into wiki format and stick it on the SW for the permanent benefit of newcomers to the debate, as I've done with SLOB's "Who's Who In The 9/11 Truth Movement?"

Once they know you are a shill, you are no longer a shill.

Linky (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?postid=2224081#post2224081). A good start, but it's only acronyms, and it just explains what the acronyms stand for, not what they mean, if you see what I mean.

LIHOP: Let It Happen On Purpose

isn't quite sufficient.

LIHOP: Let It Happen On Purpose. This phrase refers to the notion that although the Bush administration were not actually complicit in the 9/11 attacks, they knew of them in advance, but chose not to prevent the attacks because they wanted an excuse to invade Iraq / take away our civil liberties / frighten us into voting Republican. The most prominent proponents of this view are ...

(I stopped there because I don't know who the most prominent proponents of this view are. But if someone filled that in, that's about the level I think we need to aim at.)

A shill is a rather old term that has little or nothing to do with 9-11, but a lot to do with carnival barkers, and paid promoters for a product.

Think also of the lady with big tits leaning over the craps table. Yes, she's on the payroll at the casino . . .

Most English people would say "stooge".

Think also of the lady with big tits leaning over the craps table. I don't need you to tell me to think of ladies with big tits.

I am, as usual, way ahead of you.

But you are still following those tits . . . :p

Yes, well, if only ladies with big tits had anything to do with 9/11 then not only would this discussion be relevant to the OP but also 9/11 research would be much more fun.

LIHOP is just something troofers use to try to convince people that they aren't nutjobs, because LIHOP is at least plausible.

Normal person: Your theories are pretty outrageous.

Troofer: Well, there's also LIHOP, to cater for the needs of those less whacky.

Normal person: Interesting. Are there many LIHOP people in your group?

Troofer: Oh, yeah! We have heaps of LIHOPers!

Normal person: Cool. Can you give me a name so I may talk to them?

Troofer: Ummm... *runs away*

Well technically MIHOP is also LIHOP.

Think of LIHOP as the default fall back position for the MIHOP crowd...

Doesn't anyone support LIHOP?

Some say they do but I think they just don't want to fully admit how far into the woo they are. LIHOP is CT lite.

Garnos pretty much covered it above. If you ever start talking the plausability of LIHOP with someone they run pretty quick when they realize how deep the rabbit hole would need to be.

This brings me back to the "either complicit or criminally negligent". What the conspiracists fail to realize is that it is impossible to have evidence for both.

You can't intentionally do something and also be negligent to stop it.

Agreed.

And here is the wording from the front page of the LC site.

"The central premise of Loose Change is that the United States Government was, at the very least, criminally negligent in allowing the attacks of September 11th, 2001 to occur.

However, when one looks deeper into the evidence, one might come to the startling conclusion that our own government might have been directly responsible for the attacks themselves."
