Olaf Stamp. A voice of anti-hysterical, anti-environmentalist inanity. The guy that said this: (http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/0,1518,472200,00.html)
SPIEGEL: Why is it such a taboo to ask about the positive effects of climate change?
Storch: The reasons are likely rooted in religion. Playing around with God's creation is simply not allowed. Incidentally, in the past it was precisely the deeply religious people who said: Of course we're playing with God's creation, in fact we're perfecting it. This sort of thinking is frowned upon today.
SPIEGEL: Aren't climate researchers helping fuel a state of panic with their generally bleak warnings?
Storch: Unfortunately many scientists see themselves too much as priests whose job it is to preach moralistic sermons to people. This is another legacy of the 1968 generation, which I happen to belong to myself. In fact, it would be better if we just presented the facts and scenarios dispassionately -- and then society can decide for itself what it wants to do to influence climate change.
Interview conducted by Olaf Stampf
So global warming, it's all good. Just ask the Dutch. If only they could see the benefits, and stop worrying about the sea rising. And the scientists should shut up with the warnings, and let society decide what it all means.
From the article (http://www.spiegel.de/international/...481684,00.html) in the OP:
It was not until the rise of the environmental movement in the 1980s that everything suddenly changed. From then on it was almost a foregone conclusion that global warming could only be perceived as a disaster for the earth's climate.
So... Greenpeace did it? Friends of the Earth? When, oh when, will the world's climate scientists realise that they have been conned by a bunch of sandal eating, Guardian wearing, chick-pea bleeding hippies?
Olaf sees hysteria everywhere. I see good science and careful reporting. But then, I stopped listening to environmentalists about twenty years ago, and perhaps he should do the same. The science is good enough on it's own.

How much has the sea risen?
120 m since the peak of the last ice age (http://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/briefs/gornitz_09/).
Predicted to rise only a paltry 4-5 m more.
