View Full Version : Randi revealed one of his sacred secrets

Well, I don't know if it's that sacred, but anyway,.... :)

Have you ever been puzzled by something for a long,..., long time, and finally been able to figure it out?. The thrill is immense, isn't it?

Well, this was my case at the Amazing Meeting.

In his book "The Truth About Uri Geller", Randi wrote how he convinced Barbara Walters of Geller's tricks. It was about the "telepathy powers" on reading the content of a sealed envelope.

He succesfully did read Ms Walters's drawing, but in the book, of course, he did not say how he did it. I kept wondering over the years: How the hell did he do that?

Here's the background, for all of you who haven't read the book so far:

Ms Walters: Just before the program, I did a drawing. I put it in three envelopes in this book. We have not had this envelope out of our sight. Randi has in no way been close to it. The closest you've been to it, to my knowledge, is right now. Reproduce it.

Mr Randi: Now Ms. Walters's statement is totally true. There are no mistakes here. You have my word on it. I had to do it the hard way, but I produced a drawing of a house with a little girl standing inside, a chimney, smoke coming therefrom, and a doorway. Ms Walters's drawing was the same, except that her little girl was outside the house

It was Sunday, just at the AM closing minutes, after his farewell words, when Randi showed us the video of the said program (was back in 1978, I think) and opened a discussion on the trick. He even rewinded the tape so we could see it for a second time.

Hey!, the mystery was finally uncovered :):), I came to know how he did it, AT LAST!...

Sorry, but I won't reveal it by any means. I understand it was a reward, a prize, to all of us who made the effort to attend the meeting. This sole event was well worth the $$$$ I spent to be there.

Just wanted to share my excitement :D

Thank you Mr. Randi! :):)

Not much of a reward for us who planned our flights around the published schedule and had to leave on time.

I'll tell you in exchange for your hat.

Not my Hat!
It's my magic hat. It freaks out woo woos.
Besides, I know Randi got Sylvia Browne to get someone dead to spy on Baba while she drew the picture and channelled it to Sylvia who then told Randi.
The most parsimonios explanation.

I stated on this forum that the only magic trick I can do is to be magically tied and untied and then tied again....and Randi did it!
I was so thrilled I ran up and told him, "I can do that too!!!"
I will never tell, and have just successfully performed it again for my students...they love tying up the teacher....the guess this year is that I am hiding a small student under the blanket who is actually the hands they see adjusting the blanket...this student enters and leaves the classroom via a trap door ( OK my class isn't highly intelligent this year)

This is Barbara Walters for crying out loud. I doubt she'd draw something completely random, like a hippo carrying an umbrella while wearing a tu-tu.
