Many of you have already seen this video:

And many of you have learned about the scam "best seller" called The Secret.
About 3:15 (if memory serves) into the aforementioned video, Uri proclaims what "The Secret" is all about... Want something... Will it to be...
I'm curious how many of The Secret's beliefs were borrowed from Geller.
I hope this thread will consist not of bashing and humorous findings, but mostly of comparisons of Uri's (and other's) "works" to see if The Secret truly has any original ideas.
My guess is it doesn't, but the Jury's still out. I use the word "Jury" because many innocent people were hanged by such. So I request that this thread be limited to proof of both parallels and inconsistencies. Please oblige, and thank you.

I don't think they needed to steal anything from Geller. Beliefs like this are as old as, well, belief. What is praying to a god, if not the hope that your thoughts will result in something tangible? The whole "mind over matter" thing is far older than Geller or the Secret, they are both simply repackaging some standard feel-good stuff and hoping people will give them money instead of actually trying to make themselves feel good.

It probably does not come from or derive from Geller. The most likely source of the ideas in The Secret is The Secret In The Bible by Tony Bushby, ISBN 0-9581891-4-5, Joshua Books, in which "The Secret" as discussed in The Secret is the undeclared real title, and real subject.

I thought this was going to be some kind of psychic battle where nothing actually happens, because their powers are exactly balanced against each other.

There was a segment on 20-20 last night (5/11/07) on "seeing and believing" which included a section on magical thinking. The Secret was touched on in that segment but the impression I was left with was that there may be something to this notion of magical thinking. I think this stuff is probably a recycling of "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale

It also seems to be pretty much the same as "Cosmic Ordering" as made famous by Noel - multi coloured swap shop - Edmonds

Of course. It is the law of Conservation of Woo.
BTW, did you ever see the psychic battle on South Park? I would like to see something like that between Uri and Ramtha. Na na na na na na na....
