Family Stunned To See Glowing Statue Of Virgin Mary (http://www.newsnet5.com/news/2402970/detail.html)
Eyes, Heart Appear To Glow
CAMPBELL, Ohio -- A statue of the Virgin Mary in the Youngstown suburb of Campbell has attracted attention because of eyes and a heart that appear to glow.
"When I first saw her, my hairs just stood up," said Anabel Collins, of Poland, Ohio. "My husband and I and my children were stunned. We could not believe it. I had to look away for a second, because it was weird."
Two women first noticed the glittering eyes of the statue outside St. Joseph the Provider Church on Aug. 4. Since then, thousands have gathered, many carrying cameras and peering through binoculars.
Wayne Ulery, of Campbell, is one of those thousands. He has a degenerative nerve condition that leaves him unable to walk.
"I'm praying that some way I can be helped, that I can get up and run out of this wheelchair," he said. "Miracles have happened in France and Europe. Why not Campbell, Ohio?"Sad, so sad. Especially considering:The Rev. Michael Swierz, the church's pastor, said a gold leaf was put on the statue's eyes, heart and halo in the 1970s. Heavy rains may have washed away dirt, causing the eyes and heart to glow more brightly, he said.So some dirt is washed off of a statue and people are expecting miracles?
