The scientific america website says:

Jellyfish reproduction involves several different stages. In the adult, or medusa, stage of a jellyfish, they can reproduce sexually by releasing sperm and eggs into the water, forming a planula.

So, does the same jellyfish release both sperm and eggs, or do you need a male jellyfish and a female jellyfish?

A bigger question for me is how SpongeBob gets strawberry jelly by milking the tenacles of jellyfish?;)

The title of this thread reminded me of an old Far Side (by Gary Larson) cartoon.

Two outhouses. One with a picture of a jellyfish on the door. The other with a picture of ... another jellyfish on the door. Many jellyfish are swimming around. The caption reads, "Only they can tell."
