Man's plot to kill girlfriend ends with his death (http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21774505-2,00.html)

A CALIFORNIAN man who tried to kill his girlfriend by leaving her in a car parked across railway lines was himself killed when an oncoming train hurled the car into him as he fled.

His girlfriend survived, the Associated Press reported.

...

A 450-tonne commuter train hit the rear of the car, launching it into the man.

To be honest I thought this was an urban myth that had found its way into a credulous foreign website (sorry, Australians) -- it being so absurd. But I've found references in many local papers too. Incredible!

I just saw it on the local news.

I give him 9 out of 10 points in the Darwin Award contest.

So she positioned the car on the tracks in just such a way as to get hit by the train and cause it to fling into him as a missile while she survives?

Hmm. Sounds to me like the bytch deliberately killed her boyfriend. I hope she fries.

Shemp- Were any goats injured?

In case anyone is skeptical, here's a local report on it from the L.A. Daily News: http://www.dailynews.com/ci_5949732?source=most_emailed

And no goats were injured, but several were traumatized. I'm treating them to a massage and bubble bath to calm them.

I guess the car wasn't a Dodge.

That link says it was an attempted murder-suicide and that the man didn't try to flee. Either way, this is a Darwin Award candidate I don't feel bad about mocking.

Attempted murder suicide?

Then why did her get out of the car?

I'll bet he wanted to be close enough to see her eyes, when she saw the train coming...

He dies trying to kill her. Sometimes Karma is a step ahead of the action.

According to the second report, he was thrown clear by the impact. I guess we won't know for sure until his girlfriend is well enough to speak about it.

But that doesn't make nearly as good a story.

Well according to the Official Rules (http://darwinawards.com/rules/), "being hit by a train or an automobile" does not qualify, nor would it count if it was his intent to commit suicide, since that is a deliberate and not accidental.

Yeah, this story is getting lamer by the hour. At this rate we'll soon find out his girlfriend got stuck on the tracks and he raced to the scene (leaving his job taking care of kids at an orphanage) to help her escape and wound up sacrificing his own life to save hers.

And where's the fun in that?

However if he was killed because he forgot that his house keys were still in the ignition, he should receive full credit.

Am I missing something? Was she unconscious, or tied up, or something? Did she voluntarily sit in the car as the train came at them? Or did they agree to commit suicide together? What's the deal?

At minimum, he should get a traffic violation. Driving across the train lines from around the traffic is just plain wrong!
