View Full Version : The Lost Promises of Dylan Avery
qarnos

In this thread (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=82471), Dog Town suggested (http://forums.randi.org/showpost.php?p=2623406&postcount=165) a thread to keep track of the all the promises Dylan Avery has made to his "fans", only to break them at a later date.
Whilst I'm sure Dog Town's suggestion was at least partly in jest, I like to take things literally, and so a new thread is born!
I will kick this list off with one of his more recent efforts:
The Announcement
2007-04-16 - 2007-04-23
There will be a press release and video from the three of us, to our fans, out in a few days. We just have to sort some things out.
Please don't interrogate me, as I refuse to capitulate this time. [laugh.gif]
Trust me. It'll be all smiles.
Seven days later...
Sorry guys, looks like I can't say anything after all. [dry.gif] [wink.gif]

I've been passed on some .... um ... sensitive material regarding the World Trade Center, and I received it under the guideline that it be widely disseminated publicly, "on the appropriate websites"
I have approximately 600M of data that needs to be torrented and seeded as fast and reliably as possible.
Any takers? Trust me. This is worth it.
.......This is like Christmas, Thanksgiving, Birthdays and Valentine's Day wrapped into one.
It's something we've all wanted for a very, very long time...
He gave them floorplans. That's right, floorplans. O.K., he did give them something....but floor plans!? Better than Christmas and birthdays!?
Pfft.
**emphasis added
BTW: What happened to all of the furor stirred up about these floor plans. Is the silence due to the fact that few truthers understand them or that they can discern nothing nefarious therein?

What about the various release-date promises? I think it was originally supposed to be out for the 5th anniversary. At this point it'll be lucky to be out on the 6th.

"Following our conversations we now have the go ahead from Michael Meacher.
He has organised a screening of Loose Change 2 at Parliament. It is now confirmed for June 14th. We will be showing it to an audience of up to 200 specially invited MP's, Members of the Lords, and lobby journalists.
And then..
6.14.2006
Oh well.
Suffice to say, the Parliament screening did not go through today. All I leave you with is an e-mail sent to Michael Meacher from our representative...

The view thing, if it is postponed, I would say indefinitely shy of ABC getting opposing view points on the same week...I suspect pressure played a role in the delay...

Both "Variety" and The Hollywood Reporter" list upcoming film releases. No mention of a LC:FC release in the rest of 2007.
No mention of LC:FC at the Magnolia Pictures website, which has a specific area for "coming soon".
MercuryMedia is not involved with LC:FC.
No confirmation of Charlie Sheen doing the voice over.
No confirmation of a re-schedule for The View.
No confirmation of a LC:FC release at any major film theater chain or any independent theater. They may up renting some theaters, like you do for a child's 8th birthday.....pizza AND Shrek 3!

Both.
One 'looser' even spent an inordinate amount of time rendering some files which weren't in the .tiff or .dwg format.
By the time he'd finished, no one cared.... and neither did he.

The blueprints were a blessing in disguise. I'm pretty sure the day they were released, 500 truthers simultaneously looked at them and said to themselves "Holy crap, I guess I'm *NOT* an engineer after all".

In yer dreams!
On the day they were released, 10 'truthers' (I doubt they can muster 500) said...
"Kewl! These don't look nuffink like the ones on youtube"
"Now we have the evidence...look the floor plan has been amended 110 times!!"
"These are... don't show...must...must be disinfo!!eleventy!!111!!"
"Why aren't they moving?"
"Why won't mediaplayer open a .dwg file?"
"Anyone got an eraser and a pen?"
"Where's the plane?"
"I have a friend who has an uncle who works with a guy who knows a man with a daughter who is at university and is dating a guy whose brother is starting a structural engineering course. I'll ask my friend to have a look at these."
"What does Alex Jones say?"
"Does 'H' stand for 'high explosives'"?

My gut hurts from laughing. lol.
I'll bet there is at least one truther that hasn't emerged from the basement since Dylan's "floor plan exposé."
I can hear the rampant knocking on the (heavily barricaded) basement door, and the wailing from somewhere within: "just one more day mom, and I will prove 911 was an inside job I tells ya!11!!1!1".

Well, actually, they are still waiting for their engineers and architects to finish their review of them. Since all three of them can't understand what's on the drawings, it's taking a while.

Dylan's promise of a screening of LC for Parliament. (all bolding mine)
http://loosechange911.blogspot.com/2006/05/parliament-funk.html
In case you guys were wondering, yes. It's really happening...
He then includes a letter from "T.S. Managing Director, MMI Ltd" (?) which states:
It is now confirmed for June 14th. We will be showing it to an audience of up to 200 specially invited MP's, Members of the Lords, and lobby journalists.
Then there were rumors that it wasn't going to happen. Well, not rumors per se, but actual return e-mails that were sent by the truthers to thank Meacher:
After full consideration, Mr Meacher is not arranging for this film to
be shown. Regards, Monica Masson PA
Rt Hon Michael Meacher MP

So did Dylan admit that maybe it wasn't written in stone, and that he messed up with his big announcement? Nope. Still making promises, here's one of his replies:

the screening's on, but Meacher has found someone to replace himself. but we're trying to keep this on the DOWN LOW, eh? right now as far as the public record knows, Meacher likes our movie and is responsible for organizing the screening. if Meacher makes a public statement, great. but right now, the cancellation/transfer is all behind the scenes.
TRUST ME. the screening is going forward, one way or another.

Guess what? It never happened. It never will happen. Dylan is full of hot air , but he's smart enough to know that his followers are too stupid to realize that none of his empty promises will ever pan out.

Whenever *anyone* jumps the shark tank to go from "conspiracy theorist" to "Conspiracy Tycoon", every piece of information from them now suddenly becomes suspect. The Conspiracy Tycoon's theories need to be protected to prevent dilution of revenue stream, and as a result, so "truth" takes a back seat to anything that generates attention.

It is heartbreaking, however, to see the almost daily heartbreak on the LC forums. It seems a lot those guys (most of them? all of them?) depend on Dylan Avery and his achievements for their very existence. They've been dealt severe blows, especially recently, but keep hanging in there like tough little soldiers. I do wonder greatly what will happen when Final Cut fails miserably (relative to Avery's typical overestimation).

The funny thing is, I don't think it matters to them. Normal folks of course need something to actually happen once in a while. But to CT'ers, it's perfectly fine that their big breakthrough is perpetually just around the corner, but never arrives. In this way, they're no different from other fringe movements. The UFO is always about to land real soon. Bigfoot will be captured next week. The perpetual motion machine is this close to finally working. Atlantis will soon be rediscovered -- you get the idea. It doesn't matter if the Big Thing that finally vindicates them all and makes every skeptic eat crow and admit defeat never happens, because actually getting something accomplished isn't important. What is important is the sense of belonging to something significant. And for that, all they require is the excitement and titillation of eternal anticipation.

I'll need to see some evidence for this claim. Remember, this is the guy that started out to write a fiction film, and then fell for his own propaganda. I wouldn't be surprised if Dylan believes every word of his own hype.
In fact, if you took away all the 9/11 CT and substituted some actual evidence of public corruption, the way that DylanCo appears to have been built up and played by the system could be heart-breaking. It's only the sloppy research and his heinous insinuations that evens it out for me. Maybe all the effort put into bilking Dylan kept the sharks distracted from someone else for a while.

Re: "just around the corner"
Has there ever been any scholarly comparison between conspiracy theorizing and apocalyptic thinking? Both see the world as a grandiose scheme of evil, both maintain expectation of an immanent breakthrough by the forces of righteousness, and both develop elaborate shorthands for their doctrines, symbols (magic bullet/magic passport) which are reinterpreted and used over and over again. In fact, the CT Armageddon's delay can be specifically blamed on the forces of evil, giving it a competitive advantage in a secular world.
Anyway, does anyone know of any studies on this?

I know of no such studies. But I think it would make an excellent topic for a paper, as would other aspects of the CT mentality.
