Hey, everyone,

Recently, a few of my friends gave me a video they shot for a class project, (Yes, I'm still young enough to have to do class projects) which they've been trying to post to YouTube. The problem is, the video is 1.5 gigs... and is only 8 minutes long. I have no idea what they did to get it that big, but every time I try to convert it to a different format or codec, I get the same weird problem. The video, which is pretty decent normally, gets jerky, anytime there's a text break (just inserted with some movie editor) with a delay, it just flashes past it, and the entire picture gets this weird interlacing.

I'll post an example if I can, but I was wondering if anyone has seen a problem like this before.

Perhaps mismatched framerates between the regular video and the insertions?

i don't even think raw digital video is that large for 8 minutes.

I have seen where editing programs don't actually edit the original file, instead they just create markers that cause "cut" scenes to be jumped (iMovie works this way).

I think they need to go back to their original editing program and have it exported to youtubes recommended MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format at 320x240 resolution with MP3 audio.

It's about right. Raw DV comes in at about 13 GB per hour.

As for the OP, have a look at Any Video Converter Free (http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/)

Convert to mpeg1 instead, this will give you the proper res. 320/240 that youtude displays and will allow the full frame rate of 30fps to play.
Cut down your audio to mono, and you could try to lower the bitrate (maybe called the "video quility" setting) up to 75%

That's really interesting because I made a video tutorial on that very thing. I'll put up my YIM and msn ID if you'd like me to send it to you. It's 46 seconds at only 1.31 mb. Check my profile if you want the video.
