The "official story" (http://redbirdjan.freeyellow.com/ode.html). Always seemed a bit suspicious to me, the narrator of this story just seems way too cold to be simply an innocent bystander. And what was the similar-looking girl throwing off the Tallahatchie Bridge the day before with Billy Joe?
I have my own theory, but first I'll see what you guys think.

Well, it's obvious! It was the confession that they designed the concrete core with C-4 coated rebar, at Prescott Bush's demand. And the gun they used on the grassy knoll, tied to it as ballast. Along with their membership papers in the Illuminati, so they couldn't be tied back to the NWO!

This is going to sound pretty gross, but considering the apparently devastating emotional impact on Mr. MacAllister, I just don't see how the "something" tossed of the Tallahatchie Bridge can be anything but an aborted fetus.

does this look like a jump that would kill someone?

I was always of the opinion that the narrator killed Billy Joe. Loved that song, still do.

Obviously, the narrator shot him with a high-powered rifle from the grassy knoll on Choctaw Ridge.

i think not...Well, it depends on the level of the river at the time of the incident.
In addition, the pic doesn't reveal how rocky the riverbed is; if one hit even a moderately-sized rock it could prove lethal. Also, a person could be knocked unconscious, or break a leg, and drown in short order.

Unless he was already dead when he "jumped."

Did Billy fall at freefall speeds?

It's obvious the singer's father was in on it. Notice how he keeps changing the subject. "He never had any sense. Pass the biscuits. I've got forty more acres to plow." And then he conveniently dies in less than a year from a "virus"? Who are they trying to kid?

I think it's obvious what they were throwing off that bridge: it was the 9/11 Commission Report!

This reminds me of the Richard Marx Conspiracy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgJffiGHz7M)
(sorry if I brings back painful memories)
I like to call it the Mullet Conspiracy, actually he cuts his mullet by the end, so if anything, conspiracies can do some good.

I want to know what virus it was going around that pappa caught last spring and resulted in his quick demise...ebola?

There's something fishy about that preacher. He just happens to stop by the day after Billie Joe "jumped" and invites himself over for dinner? And that aside about seeing Billie Joe and the narrator's doppelganger sounded rather threatening...

And...what was he doing up there on Choctaw Ridge? Doesn't sound like the kind of place respectable people go...and why was he telling mama about it in the first place...what's his agenda?

This may have had something to do with that night the lights went out in Georgia. You know, two weeks is enough time to get to Candletop and back from Choctaw Ridge.

I think D.B. Cooper was involved somehow.
