I sent back all the Verizon equipment a month ago because the system didn't work. Yesterday I got a bill from Verizon for $107.66 for an "unreturned modem charge".
Verizon is a bunch of things I can't say on this board, and gonifs, too.
I strongly advise people to avoid Verizon DSL like the Black Death and STDs.

Are the alternatives better?

Not defending Verizon, but I hear horror stories like this about most online services.

How goes disputing the charge? BTW if you are ever treated rudely I believe you can call their cust. service line to complain and get a $25 credit.

The other side of the coin:

I've been using Verizon DSL for the past six months or so, and love it!

I installed Optimum online last month in 5 minutes and haven't had one problem.
It could be that Verison has been having problems since they fired all those people. It got so bad that the NY State Attouney General made Verison refund $$$$ to all the customers who couldn't connect.
That will be my next step if they keep on dunning me.

Speakeasy DSL is what I use. Read about 'em on 'PvP Online'.

Heh. I plug that strip every chance I get.

It was either them or SWBell after DirecTVDSL stopped.

No way in he11 I'm going back Ma Bell.

Sounds like an oversight to me. Surely this will be easy to correct once you receive the proof of delivery receipt. Why do you think it's a scam?

Not an oversight. The bastards claim I omitted a component ot the module when I sent it back. The fricken thing is one piece.

You know, I liked DirecTVDSL. It was pretty problem free. When they went out of business, I first tried w/Earthlink, but they messed up again and again.

I went with Speakeasy on the basis that they host Something Awful. No problems there.

From mine and other's experience, usually what happens with the broadband internet providers is that they either get everything to work with minimal fuss, or it's FUBAR.

Jeff, I feel your pain. Only I feel that way about AT&T. I have actually been thinking about switching over to Verizon DSL as I currently have ATT cable TV and cable modem internet.

I am mad at AT&T because of something they did to me when I was in training for my last job. I had to travel a lot, and my phone card bill was slow catching up to me. I was a week late making the payment, and they cut off my ability to use my calling card. This angered me because I was using it to stay in touch with my wife while I was away from home for four months. I had never missed a payment in the ten years I had the card. It made me mad they couldn't tell the difference between a deadbeat and a loyal, reliable customer.

I leapt at the chance to get Verizon cellular and regular phone service. Screw AT&T. And now I am considering Direct TV and Verizon DSL.

I am curious about people's opinions about both.
