The Detroit Board of Education auditor spent nearly 19 hours of the Northeast blackout stuck alone in a hot, dark elevator in the 75-year-old Fisher Building. Firefighters rescued her Friday after someone finally heeded her pleas for help.
"I was too happy to get out of there," said Lloyd, 52. "I prayed a lot. I said, `Oh my God, you're here! Thank you!'"
The usual.

Wow, now I'm 100% convinced Firefighters do exist!

Maybe God should shut more people like that in lifts. They're happy, we're happy

I wonder what God was trying to teach this woman, who was also trapped in the elevator?
With a decapitated head.

I don't know, but please start at least 5 more threads on articles dealing with religion when they could all be encapsulated in the one big thread on articles dealing with religion that you already have.
lol
gotta spread your good news. ;)

The news story in question has nothing to do with religion, and everything to do with elevators. It seems to be on-topic to me.
Perhaps you have something relevent to contribute to the discussion?

Hmm... To me that reads as if she thanked the rescuers - not God. "Oh my God" seems to be just an exclamation rather than an actual address to God, so "You're here. Thank you." seems to have been directed at the rescuers.
Just picking nits.

Saw a report on tonight's news about a doctor who was decapitated by an elevator. From the way they described it, he got his head stuck in the door, then the elevator went up anyway, lopping his head off.
Had I not seen it on the news, I would immediately assume "urban legend".

I always take the stairs. Never have I heard a story of a person who loses their head because the stairs have suddenly malfunctioned.
Escalators are different story...

Yeah, I dont think we could afford to hire Sherlock Holmes to track down all the different threads.

Bad picture
I read the decapitation story this weekend. But, Dave, that link must have a mistaken picture. The picture didn't fit the name of the deceased.

I dunno. What makes you say that? Do you know him?
Oh... "Hitoshi Nikaidoh"...
Possibly white mom & Japanese dad. Hard to tell, really by just looking at the picture. Not enough detail in the postage stamp sized image.
Could also be he didn't get much sun, too. Medical residents are like that. Then there's digital pictures from cheap cameras. Just look at my washed-out visage taken by my $90 camera at arm's length. You'd never know I was Samoan.
No, not really! Just kidding!
