In February 1999, St. Mary’s Church in suburban Boston celebrated its 125th anniversary. Cardinal Bernard Law oversaw the festivities, including a mass where parish children were summoned to the altar for a special blessing.
Sister Ann Daylor, a Dominican nun and St. Mary’s director of religious education, glowingly told a reporter that the celebration would launch a yearlong program in which the Catholic young’uns would learn "the importance of their place in the future of the parish."
Oh, you got that right, Sister.
In December 2002, Cardinal Law would resign amid allegations that he covered up child sexual abuse committed by priests in his flock. The Cardinal’s sagging, pale, piggish visage was splayed all over the media as an emblem of the exploding pedophile-priest scandal.
But less than a month before Cardinal Law resigned amid blinding flashbulbs, Sister Ann Daylor—the nun who predicted that children would play a crucial role in her church’s future—was quietly placed on leave. She had been accused of sexually abusing a fifth-grade girl almost forty years ago, a charge that she denies.................... continued here (http://www.jimgoad.com/nun****ed.html)

Whats your spin on this Nie? God sent these Nuns to molest these children in his name? Or are you channeling Jedi Knight and suggesting it wasn't the Priests wot dun it but it was the Nuns after all? Or are you just slagging the church? Or are you confessing to a childhood trauma? I'm damned if I can figure any other point to posting stuff from that potty mouthed potatoheads site........ Anyway, the link was worth it for the "molesting nun made me homosexual" line...... a classic.

Just looks like another case of the church not admitting that there are sexual molestors within its ranks. I don't think you'll find many people disagreeing with that in this forum.

Provide evidence that the rate of sexual abuse among the Catholic Church is higher than outside of the church.
I think that the frequent airing of church abuse is akin to people seeing alligator or shark attacks on tv, and erroneously thinking that the rates are so high.

I don't think anyone is trying to argue that. Unless there was something in the six mile article that mentioned it. I found the article a little rambling, to say the least.

Whether the rate of sexual abuse among CC is higher than outside the Church is something that we cannot determine, personally I do not believe that this is the case but this is not the point in my opinion.
The serious point is that we must be stricter with Institutions -- like Church--that advocate moral codes. Many people trust their children to Church ( summer camps, schools, even as altar boys etc etc etc) exactly because they feel that Church is a shelter from the " immorality of the society".
I consider the matter terribly serious. If we start making jokes about it or use it as an easy weapon against Church ( I am not referring to you T'ai Chi) the path that leads to the immunization of the society regarding this issue will be wide open and we wouldn't want this to happen.
We can't afford to get used to hearing to such news and on the long run to start ignoring them.

So, we shouldn't expect a higher standard from God's representatives on earth?
I didn't think so, but it is nice to have concurrence..

As a 'survivor' of 12 years of Catholic schooling it became plain to me that the religious - specifically, in this case, nuns - have a very poor concept of human sexuality.
They call themselves 'Brides of Christ'. :(
Whoa!
If a sexually immature young woman dedicates her life to this type of organization it should come as no surprise that the mis-directed sexual desire causes this type of behavior. I suspect that these particular abusers would find that their abuse of other young women isn't a 'sin' or a transgression against their vows. Same can be said for priests and young men. It's interesting that these Priest abusers don't consider thier acts to be underlying homosexual tendencies - abuse of young men is never described as homosexual acts. And I believe them.
Who caused this attitude? I suspect St. Jerome and St. Agustine as the prime initiators.

{snip}I'm getting more of a billiefan2000 vibe from this. Note posting of an article but no personal comments, reactions, or opinions? It's like billiefan2000's more belligerent, and vocal, twin.
