I was recently watching an excellent documentry on the terrible events in Tiananmen Square in 1989.

One of the worker representitves was being interviewed about his roll in events, and he made the extrodinary claim

"I was asleep when the soliders attacked. Some strange men came into my tent and said China needs a Lech (Lech Walesa) and they thought I was the candidate. With that they took me out of the tent"

It was further explained that the 'men' got the protester safely away from the carnage and secretly arranged safe passage to Hong Kong, where today he is a strong advocate for Chinese reform and runs Free Asia Radio.

Who were these strange men, and what power did the weild that allowed them to move this disadent out of China while martial law was being imposed. Fascinating stuff if I do say so myself

Yes, you do say so yourself, but in your haste you neglected to tell us what documentary featured this story. :D

It is part of a series being shown in Australia called 12 events that shocked the world in the last 100 years. From some of the others in the series that I know a bit about, they seem well researched. Why I put credence in this report is they actually interview the guy, and it was recounted in his own words
