Go to google.com. In the search window enter
5+5
and hit return.
It also does some unit conversions.

Here's a great site for unit conversions. (http://www.processassociates.com/process/convert/cf_all.htm)

I use Linux, so I tend to use units for conversion.
Thanks though, I'll bookmark that one.

Never used it but, it does a hell of a lot more as well.
Some fairly complex math and as you say...unit conversions. But, you can use complex/conversational phrasing.
Also, it works from those browser or desktop add-ons.
C'mon you smart Johnies, see how far you can push it. :D

Actually noticed it a while back. Pissed me off. I wanted to look up something containing some of the terms, and it tried to do math with them instead of look for them.
Put the toy on its own tab, dammit. Then at least there will be an unambiguous context to perform math operations.
The Python interactive command mode makes a decent calculator. So does the OpenOffice spreadsheet.

Well, if you enter an expression (say, 5+5) and it does math on it, it then gives you the option "Search for documents containing the terms 5+5"
For extra amusement, ask it what the answer to life, the universe, and everything is....
