View Full Version : The Great Stundies Debate

I have decided to create this thread for William Rea, myself, and any other interested parties to debate any concerns regarding the validity of Teh Stundies.
My main reason for doing this is to keep the official Stundies threads free of posts unrelated to the nomination process.
I think if William (or anybody) objects to a particular nomination, they have the right to respond in the nomination thread, but I hope all conversation not directly related to a particular nomination be confined to this thread.
This is not a formal debate of any kind - it is just a place to discuss without getting in the way of anyone who doesn't give a hoot.

Yes, apparently ad Hominems are perfectly valid.
I disagree with that assertion, but I digress.
I am curious, William. Is your personal crusade against Teh Stundies because you see them as being a form of Elitism? That's a serious question, BTW.
I think Teh Stundies are supposed to be about us going "Ha ha" at moronically insane disregard for logic/rationality/scientific method. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

You will note that I, not a particular fan of CT's nor of William, find the Stundies to be contemptible bile, sneering, and ill conceived. You are free to check any number of interchanges I have had with Moby 7, the sire of this bastard award, in the nom threads for the past few months, and on the Forum management section. I know sneering bile well, as I've been suspended twice for being a right prick on this, and another, sub forum.
I'll not repeat those previous points here, other than to summarize:
The Stundies are beneath the dignity of the otherwise well conceived anti CT movement on JREF forums.
I predict a rather short life for this thread, but I have been wrong before.
Cheers.

I can see how some people might think that, but I think it's no better or worse than things like the comic strip thread. It's just a bit of fun along the same lines as the Fundies.

Well, I thought it was dead after two posts. :D

I'm still shocked and dismayed that Gumboot still has never had waffles.

Waffles are delicious.
I am all for the Stundies. While there are legitimate researchers on both sides of the issue there are also a lot of ludicrous claims bandied about, these deserve to be highlighted and ridiculed as an example of the type of arguments not well received. As long as the nomination is open to ludicrous comments by anyone then I feel it's perfectly valid as there's no logical fallacy in insulting someone outside a debate :)

Re Darth's comment: I'd just like to point out to everyone that I didn't start Teh Stundies. I just organise them.
