Anyway, if you've got an interest in ancient Rome, this map (http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2267&st=30&gopid=65684&#entry65684) is probably a must. It has so much info crowded on that I had to purchase one of those illuminated magnifying glasses as an accessory.

Cool! I've just mentioned the map and the Ancient Warfare magazine to the group of history buffs/reenactors that I know.

What have the Romans ever done for us?
They sure didn't conquer us, that's for sure.
Wimps. Wimps, I tell'ya.

For some reason the link takes you to the forum thread where we talk about the map, instead of the map, itself, and the .jpg file isn't showing. Try this link:

Good them Germanic tribes acted as your buffer state, eh?
Besides, weren't you guys making the Picts look civilized at that time?

Tribes, schmibes. We kicked all butts.

That looks like a thing worthy of acquiring! *ordered*
Thanks for the heads-up!!
I remember seeing the Tabula Peutingeriana in the Römermuseum in Hildesheim a decade ago. The thing that struck me most about it was the skill in fitting a continent-spanning roadmap onto a strip of parchment 40cm high and 7m long. If you thought Mercator's swollen Greenland was something, look at this exercise in compression!
Hmm, slightly off topic - maybe one of you cartophiles knows about this: I saw a wall chart of the geological timescale with emphasis on palaeontology some years back. The main body was surrounded with little textual insets on special topics like the evolution of whales or birds. It was only when you read them closely that you noticed the author having some fun on the side - e.g., one small inset dealt with the three intelligent species on Earth, mice, dolphins and humans :D The small bibliography at the bottom was a special delight, containing titles like "Big, Dumb and Extinct: Why Dinosaurs Did Snuff It Deservedly".
In most respects it was a serious, detailed chart, just these tidbits of geeky humour thrown in. I've been looking for it all over the place. Anyone ever heard of it?

I'm playing Schmivilization III now. Funnily enough, I can play as the Romans but not as the Danes.

Since you can't win over the Danes, there's no point in including them.
