Think this poor animal will get better soon? I don't think the placebo effect works on animals.
This was in the Chicago Tribune today.

I may be a dumb ol' boy but I do know better than to poke a komodo dragon with needles.

If it doesn't work they can feed it beetles and herbs and other Chinese medicines.

Arg, just when I just about almost start to believe in the human race again, I see this.

I'd give real money if that thing were to reach over and snap a couple of his fingers off. Well, maybe not off, just a really good bite.

Wait...so komodo dragons have the same 'meridians' as humans? What about pigeons? Trout?
If people want to use acupuncture, fine. Whatever. I personally wouldn't care about someone sticking a bunch of needles into me if I were desperate enough. But the dragon in question cannot indicate consent or otherwise. This is just mean.
People are out of their minds. They treat other animals (I utterly despise people who say "humans and animals" as if homo sapiens is not an animal) miserably, despite being able to choose not to do so.

The post leaves out the important facts: The dragon is receiving both acupuncture and standard vet treatment (antibiotics.) Want to guess who will take all the credit?

What you see is all there was, just the pic and a short blurb. Nothing about antibiotics, but if they did give them to the dragon you're right, acupuncture would get all the credit.

That is usually the case with all "complementary" medicine. They combine conventional, effective treatment with some nonsensical quackery, usually in sequence - conventional first.. didn't work immediately, so let's try this - oh, now he's better, it must be the second comp treatment that was effective! Suckers fall for this all the time, unfortunately.

Antibiotics on a Komodo Dragon...
They use bacteria from their mouths to kill slowly and painfully their prey. Not a good idea.
