It turns out that Iranian forces made an earlier concerted attempt to seize a boarding party from the Royal Australian Navy.
The Australians, though, to quote one military source, "were having none of it".
The BBC has been told the Australians re-boarded the vessel they had just searched, aimed their machine guns at the approaching Iranians and warned them to back off, using what was said to be "highly colourful language".
Wish there was more details of what other assets were in the area. Has anyone seen any response/denial from the Iranians on this one? If true it shows they are trying to provoke an incident.
The other question is why they (British) didn't bring this up when the Brits Sailor/Marines were captured?

Sailors using 'colorful language' --- Now, that's certainly news. (NOT)

This happened before the Brits were captured. And it would seem the Iranians learned from the encounter - it appears they literally ambushed the Brit sailors very quickly before they could mount a similar "defense".
Also, they should be taught how to "sledge" properly! ;)

Regardless...somehow I doubt that the Aussies would have ended up like the Brits...I think they would have shot their way out.

Shot their way out? Have you actually looked at the forces involved on each side in the RN incident?

I'll bet the over on that one. ;)
I find it tiresome, though predictable, that some people are choosing to try and equate the two incidents. Each encounter like this has its own logic, its own METT-T, its own unique tactical consideration. A fool's or a novice's response is roughly as follows:
"Oh, there were boats, Iranians, and armed military persons (Naval) involved. These similarities mean that these two events are the same, comparatively, so what works (doesn't work) for one scenario works (or doesn't work) for the other."
Cookie cutters are us. :p
Wait a minute, this seems to look like the template for how the blipvert media often covers events, to include murders, accidents, storms, disasters, etc.
Bah.
