Everyone agrees that after graduating West Point, Moore served as a captain in the military police in Vietnam and while there was given the nickname "Captain America." Everyone, including Moore, agrees that he feared that the soldiers in his own unit contemplated killing him because he issued so many Article 15s (punishments not involving a court martial). The disagreement comes when discussing what these punishments were for. Moore says his subordinates were sleeping on duty and using drugs. Members of his company say it was for haircut and uniform violations.
Here's how Focus on the Family tells it. (http://www.oneplace.com/Ministries/Focus_on_the_Family/Article.asp?article_id=299)

He sounds less like "Captain America" and more like Frank Burns.

This screaming yahoo (not the trademarked search engine, the other kind) also had the audacity to imply that criminal penalties for homosexuality should be stiffer in Alabama. He claims he was not implieing it, but I read the speach, including the following quote
(The state) carries the power of the sword ... to prohibit conduct with physical penalties, such as confinement and even execution
Anyone want to argue that he wasn't trying to imply there should be corporal/capitol punishment for homosexuals?
Also, he has had at least one formal complaint of misconduct filed against him.
This man should be disbarred and banned from public office. He's a criminal and a menace, plain and simple.

There's also an AP article that portrays Moore in a heroic manner. So far, I've only seen it run on Fox News:
