As reported by FOXNEWs (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,286879,00.html), researchers are heading to Michigan in search of Bigfoot.
Most notable from the story:
"Dr. Grover Krantz, a scientist specializing in cryptozoology, believes Bigfoot is a "gigantopithecus," a branch of primitive man believed to have existed 3 million years ago."
For those paying attention....Grover Krantz died in 2002 from pancreatic cancer. As to the "Patterson file" he proclaimed as evidence, take a look at:
http://www.bigfootencounters.com/files/mk_davis_pgf.gif
Anyway...everyone knows that Bigfoot, who appeared in an episode of "The Six-Million Dollar Man" (aka Andre the Giant) is dead.

Link didn't work. A bummer, because I wanted to see where in Michigan they think Bigfoot might be footing.
This (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1120AP_ODD_Sasquatch_Search.html?source=mypi) appears to be the same article. It says the late Grover Krantz, though. :D

Ranger: "All right! Questions?"
Sal: "Yeah. Have yous ever seens Bigfeet?"
Ranger: "Technically, no. But I do see him each night in my dreams, and each day in the smiling faces of hairy children."
Farnsworth: "Bunk! Bunk, I say! Bring me a bag of Bigfoot's droppings, or shut up!"
Ranger: "I have the droppings of someone who saw Bigfoot."
Farnsworth: "Shut up!"
And my personal favorite...
Bender: Oh my God its Bigfoot!
Park: Where?
Bender: Eh he's gone. He says you should keep wasting your life though.

..."gigantopithecus," a branch of primitive man...
Why are they starting their search in the UP? 95 potentials (http://www.cstv.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/msu/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/Roster) exist in East Lansing.

I corrected the FOXNEWS link; I forgot the "l" in "html". Did you read the last line in the Seattlepi.com story you linked to...."This versoin CLARIFIES that Krantz is dead...." *hahaha*
Dang it! And here I thought he might go for the $1M JREF Prize...comming back from the dead to comment on a news story about Bigfoot I think would qualify.

I coexisted with primitive humans, but if it is "a branch of primitive man", so are modern gorillas.

There are a lot of big, hairy creatures in the UP. Moose, bears, and some of the women at Michigan Tech..........
(Just kidding. Only because some of those hairy creatures could hurt me.)

In all but three of 30 expeditions in the United States and Canada, BFRO investigators claim to have either glimpsed Bigfoot or got close enough to hear the creature, Moneymaker said.90% success rate!? How about close enough to shoot?Dr. Grover Krantz, a scientist specializing in cryptozoology, believes Bigfoot is a "gigantopithecus," a branch of primitive man believed to have existed 3 million years ago. That's just bad reporting.

If they could only hear it, how did they know it was Bigfoot? Were their Biggie senses tingling?

There are bigfoot "sightings" all over Michigan:
The michiganbigfoot.org site has a list of them.
As for the Manistique expedition, I expect the locals will have a field day with the researchers.
"Yah, da bigfoots, dem fellers shure got big feet."
"I seen too or tree, side by each next to da moose."
"Gawd I hate summer, da sleddin' is really bad dis time of yeer."
"Man, dem wimmen from Mitchigan Teck sure look like bigfoots"
(With apologies to Doubt)

No apology needed. I live in the "deep south". Which is to say that I am in the Detroit 'burbs.
But I sometimes wonder if the women who look like bigfoot at tech started with the female students at Northern Michigan......

Want to start a pool? My prediction: Michigan BFRO team 0, Bigfoot 1.

What puzzles me is why this is national news. Moneymaker/BFRO send out these "expeditions" all the time (http://www.bfro.net/), all over the US and Canada. From what I understand, they're major moneymakers (har!) for BFRO; they charge people $300 each to come along, and you have to supply your own camping gear and food.

And I believe that they'll find just enough tantalizing 'evidence' to keep them going back again and again.....

The REAL bigfoot graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Michigan, then died a penniless alcoholic 30 years later, having been passed over for full-time employment no less than 1,560 times.

I will vouch for the fact that there are many Hairy Beasts in the UP, and that most of them were females which attended Michigan Tech. I was there from 90-93, saw 2 or 3 bears, 1 moose, and a lot of Hairy female engineers. And they were BIG.
