I'm trying to start a skeptics group in my area, which is a suburb of Phoenix, Ariz., so I'd be thrilled if any JREF forum regulars living in the area would be interested in joining. The meeting format and activities are entirely up for discussion. Here's a link to the nascient Web site:

If this sort of announcement is frowned upon or posted under the wrong topic, my apologies, and no hard feelings if it gets moved or vaporized.

I joined your meetup (I think). However, the age qualifications may disqualify me in a couple of months:)

Haha -- I'm not planning to make a big deal about it if people your age don't mind hanging around with people my age in places where people my age tend to hang out. It's not intended to be exclusionary at all. It was more about setting expectations of what sort of things the group might do. (Like going to a bar, for instance.) But if some 18-year-old wants to join, I guess we could have an occasional meeting in the food court of the mall, or wherever 18-year-olds hang out these days. In my day it was the arcade.
Now look what you've made me do -- I just typed the words "in my day!" Maybe I'm too old for this group.

Whats wrong with the old Phoenix Skeptics?
The ones who meet at 'Jimmy's Coney Island Dogs' about once a month.

Absolutely nothing! I live in the East Valley and was trying to get a group going closer to where I live. There's already a skeptics group in Chandler, as well, but you have to be a Libertarian, and I'm not a Libertarian.

I didn't look into it much, but in my mind I pictured it as some kind of Objectivist soccer moms' group. Adidas Shrugged, if you will. Not really what I was looking for.
