View Full Version : (Sigh) Angelfire question

I've never built a website before. All I want to do is set up a page so I can put some digi cam photos on it so I can post 'em on BB's. I'm trying to do it through Angelfire. But I've followed it's damn instructions, and it isn't working. Has anyone here had experience with setting up Angelfire web pages? Can they give me a step-by-step on setting up pics? That's all I want to do. Nothing else.

Here's what AF says to do:

Step 7a: Add Image URL #1
Use our library or your own file. To use your own file, upload the image to your directory, then enter the URL or filename here. For example, if you've uploaded a file named picture.gif, just enter picture.gif.

For images from out Image Gallery copy and past just the image URL into the field above. The URL starts with http://, then has other stuff, and ends with .GIF or .JPG

I've uploaded the images to my directory. Unless I'm mistaken, it should just be 'images'. I'm trying to create a new file called 'pics'. My web address is /films/starshark. The photos I'm trying to publish on the page are similar to: 100-0011_img.jpg

In the field provided in step 7a, I've tried a multitude of things and nothing works. So, like I say, does anyone know how to do it? Even if they just tell me a html way of doing it (I think it'll be easier than trying to use the 'user friendly' beginners method).

Any help appreciated.

The best advice I can give is "Dont use Angelfire".

Just find a webhost that allows you to upload your pictures, then you can link to them. For some reason, people have a lot of trouble working with Angelfire.

I recommend you use Aspecto.net. You get 100 mb, the service is extremely easy to use, the only problem is the fact that the host has about a 90% uptime (which is less than satisfactory, but still not a big deal, for most people). The signup page is in Italian (probably), but its not at all hard to sign up with and signing up takes about 2 minutes (5 if you dont know Italian/Spanish) including instant account activation.

http://www.Clickherefree.com has plenty of hosts (many of which are crappy) to choose from.

I usually use a great little program called Irfanview - it's a free picture viewer that you can download from www.tucows.com etc. One neat feature is that it has a built-in facility to generate thumbnails of all your pics and build a "pretty basic and ugly but at least a start" web page from that.

Let me know if you are still trying to get Angelfire to work, I have one of their sites that I have no problem with. One thing that is easy to fix is that it's case sensitive, but I'm guessing you already checked that. Did you save your image as a jpg and upload it, or is it in another format?
