Terrence Farrell Reading (http://www.stopsylviabrowne.com/articles/terrencefarrell.shtml)
Sylvia Browne does a reading right after 9/11 about a missing NY firefighter.
Based on research in this thread (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=85304).

Every time you post, I get more angry. Evil wretch (not you; Sylvia). That she takes advantage of both the dead and their grieving families and friends...that is just pure evil.

Just one grammatical correction..
The article reads, "During the reading she also asked mentioned her (Peterson's ) sick father..." This scans funny, and I'm not sure exactly what you meant to type.
All that aside, I highly applaud your efforts, sir. Keep up the good fight!

That was a mangled edit. It was "asked about" and I wanted to change it to "mentioned".
Fixed, thanks!

Speaking of Browne and 9/11, I've seen the claim that "Browne predicted 9/11" more. When you update your webpage, under your FAQ, you might want to mention something about how there is no proof for it, and if anyone has the date of show to share it. That way when people search for information about it your site comes up.
For example:
She actually predicted 9/11, but she was off about the timing. She predicted it, as I recall, for 1999, but of course we all know it happened in 2001. [source (http://www.amazon.ca/Other-Side-Back-Sylvia-Browne/dp/customer-reviews/0451198638)]
Also Browne supplies audio tapes of all of the readings to the customers, right?

Interesting. I had not seen that.

As I understand it, yes. They do not always keep them, especially if they were unhappy with the reading. Also, they are cheap quality audio cassettes, easily damaged.

Good one, RSL. Excellent.
If you get a chance to fix this errata:
Was Farrell was alive at the time of the reading?
It's in the Analysis section, first sentence of the second to last paragraph.

At first I thought it might have been a bit of a stretch to think she was calculating her own benefit by predicting he was alive (as opposed to just blindly guessing) but it's still disgustingly despicable either way.
Another great article, and a another terrible shame this happened.

What I wonder is, did Sherri tell Sylvia right off the bat that he was a firefighter missing after 9/11? Or did she gradually cold read it from her?

I've seen Browne state (on Larry King Live or Montel, I don't recall which) that she didn't foresee 9/11.
And in fact, someone just sent me a quote from Browne's Book of Dreams, pp 22-23, paperback edition:
"As psychic as I am, not for one moment did I see the terrorist attacks of September 11 coming."
She then goes on to talk about vague dreams of fire she had in the days leading up to the attacks.
Good one, RSL. Excellent.
If you get a chance to fix this errata:
Thanks, and thanks! I will try to remember to fix this tonight.

Thanks, KT.

I did not think to ask, but I am fairly certain that Peterson told her right off the bat.

Keep this up Robert and I'm going to lose some serious weight, I get sick to my stomach reading these articles. Just so much grief and pain.
When she is gone from this earth I will dance upon her grave.

Excellent job, Robert.
Hopefully this will result in fewer victims for Sylvia in the future.

Browne told her that he had only two years left. That makes me physically ill. To tell someone that a loved one has 2 years to live. Arg! How does she sleep with herself at night.
A teeny error BTW:
Was Farrell was alive at the time of the reading?

Can I just say that putting in the websites set up to continue to serve in Mr. Farrell's name is a beautiful, beautiful touch? That was a wonderful thing for you to do.

Believe me, I understand. :(

Thanks. I hope so, too.
And actually, in recent days, I have been getting more and more emails from people telling me they used to believe in Browne's nonsense, but do not any more. These emails make it all worth the emotional turmoil of digging though all of this grief and pain.
That makes me physically ill. To tell someone that a loved one has 2 years to live. Arg! How does she sleep with herself at night.
Or, that their missing loved one is dead. Or alive. Or in "White slavery."
It seems to me that only a sociopath would say these things to a person without knowing them as a fact.

Thanks, LA. It seemed appropriate, and I was glad to do it.

I wonder how her followers continue to believe? Is their capacity for self-delusion that strong, or do they simply dismiss these cases as "flukes", or figure RS is simply lying?
A lot of emotions run through me when I read stories like this. RS, I can't imagine what it's like for you...I know you probably read & have to reject a lot of things we'll never see.
Hopefully there are people out there that are getting the facts and being converted. Here's to hoping you'll eventually bury SB as deeply as you have Kaz.

You should share some of those emails with me, Robert. I've told you this before but I actually once became nauseous reading about one of Sylvia's scams. No, not figure of speech "this makes me sick", actually sick.
I shouldn't complain but it's very unrewarding, frustrating and emotionally taxing digging through Montel show after Montel show and following up on one unsolved child kidnapping or murder after which SB victimized the family again after another unsolved child kidnapping or murder after which SB victimized the family again.
You at least have an outlet and something to show for your efforts. And proof of your work paying off.

The thing about Sylvia and others of her ilk...is Robert doesn't need to say anything. The facts just speak the awful truth about her for herself. If you say something negative, it just inspires people who want or need to believe to invent more reasons why Sylvia is true and Robert is bad. But it's hard not to watch and realize exactly what is going on. I always admired that about Randi too. It's like those who demonize him just must never have really watched a demo. He just shows the facts and starts the critical thinking synapses going by letting people draw their own conclusions.
I don't know why people believe...I think it has to do with trust... and not realizing how poor our feelings are at gaging character and truth. But I think it's a hallmark of society that we tend to shun those who are shown to abuse the trust of the vulnerable. You don't want to make people feel bad for believing...you just want to clue them in to the fact that there are deceptive people out there who will gladly take advantage of their vulnerabilities.
You do a good job of that Robert. I'm glad you are getting more and more letters of support. I think it's very hard for people to admit that they can and have been "fooled". It's humbling. But it's heroic to use such experiences to make sure others don't suffer the same fate. I really appreciate the former Sylvia followers who have posted their experiences here.

Again, I should be complaining but what about me? It's my job to shift through the reject pile. All sorts of stuff that's not good enough to go on the site but plenty good enough to make any skeptic's blood freeze. Like Dustin Ivey- she tells a mother her son was raped when he wasn't and invents fake perps right in front of a mother who knew much more than what she let on while the person who is almost certainly the real killer is completely let off the hook.
It's not clear cut and open and shut enough to be on the site but knowing SB has no psychic powers and removing the benefit of the doubt, it's terrible.
