title says it all.. I've been trying to find information on this, I'm pretty good at google-ese, and I haven't been able to find much about the temps at which lead fluoresces, if anyone can point me to some references. I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Are you talking about flourescence or just plain old black body radiation?

Lead will fluoresce when bombarded by gamma rays, but that isn't really a temperature related phenomena.

Lead has quite a low melting point...

No

Not according to any definition of fluorescence I've ever read.

I have melted lead and it just turns into a slivery gray liquid.

That's why they use mercury in fluorescent lights.

Lead would make them fall off the ceiling. Or something.

Does this have anything to do with a conspiracy theory? If not, it should probably be in the Science forum.

Mercury is actually denser than lead, mercury is used because it is easily vapourised.

I can guess where he was trying to go with this.

I don't know if the aircraft counterweights were lead or not, but at any rate, the flow of molten material out of the buildidng was more than likely aluminum, not lead.

Oooh. Don't go there. Last time I knew about aircraft weights they were composed of depleted :shocked:URANIUM:shocked: .

Let us not forget the lead acid batteries in the ups storage that emit black body radiation when heated.

Lead-acid batteries (the same type as car batteries), commonly used in large numbers in uninterruptable backup power systems, would be a plausible source of significant amounts of lead in the towers.

Respectfully,
Myriad

Edit: Darn it, the guy with the chainsaw always seems to get the job done quicker!

Yep, here's a pic of my bathroom renovation where I'm melting lead to lead in a new galvanized pipe to a cast iron fitting. The lead in the vessel is just starting to melt:

I was asking because there was something about the dripping substance coming from the corner of the building before the collapse being lead from the ups's on the (80th?) floor. if lead will glow at temp, then that may explain that evidence from the video.

There's no reason to seek a low-temperature solution, since that corner was an absolute inferno from the moment the debris plowed into it until the building collapsed. There was lots of molten aluminum at the WTC site.

I was burned by a molten lead explosion when I was about 11 (I was making ammunition, and was not wearing a shirt). I used fluorescent language, and my scars felt like they fluoresced for a few years because they stood out so much, until I became a hairy beast.
