AFAIK, the request I make in this thread shouldn't be any problem... If mods see otherwise, I sincerely apologize.)
Hello everybody,
Well, overwhelmed by nostalgy, I reinstalled Final Fantasy 7 on the comp about two weeks ago. Although the graphics are understandably outdated, the game itself seems to have aged very well, IMHO.
But today, the game just... started not working. Apparently, my comp (running AVG 7.5) has just decided that ff7.exe is a virus and not a legitimate program. I've tried healing/reinstating the file, renaming it, uninstalling/reinstalling the game, and nothing works. I'd like to fix it without doing a full Windows reinstall, as you may have guessed.
Would someone be so kind as to e-mail me their (presumably clean) file? The filename is ff7.exe, it is approximately 5.5 mb and located into your main FF7 folder. The default icon is that blue meteor thingy.
My e-mail address is tozledespote@hotmail.com .
Thanks a bunch!

Why not just turn off your AVG when you install the game?

Why not just turn off your AVG when you install the game?
So, I thought you were very right and I, very stupid for missing this obvious solution.
Well, er... now, long story short, the game is unistalled and absolutely refuses to re-install. The install crashes half a second in.
Arg.
ETA: Ok, making some progress... The error I get now is "an error occurred during the move data process - 133". From what I could gather online, is it relatively frequent when trying to reinstall something on XP... Has to do with "insanely long temp filenames"... I'm clueless as to how to fix it, but I'll look it up tomorrow. Going to bed now, sorry for the trouble everybody.

On the face of it it seems unlikely that AVG would flag this as a virus for very long, because FF7 is a very popular game and presumably the number of complaints would have prompted them to fix it. Try getting a new AVG update and see how it goes.
Also, you might try reinstalling the game to somewhere other than the default location and see if that helps.

Arg! Today, I get "an error occurred during the move data process - 113" According to what I've found, it's due to temp folders having too much files in them.... Alrighty then, off I go to clear all the temp folders I can find on the machine, but it still gives me the same error message! Also, according to most sites I've seen similar problems discussed, the error message should include the name of the files causing the problem, but the message box only has the error itself, with no file listed...
Sadness in my heart.

Well, a friend suggested me to clear what was in the hidden c:\windows\installer folder. Didn't work. :(
I have also tried installing it on two separate HDs, to no avail.
Anybody has any other suggestion?

Download CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) - it effortlessly cleanses your computer of temp files and other detritus.
It also wouldn't hurt to get RegSeeker (http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm) to clear out old, obsolete and unnecessary registry entries. I'd recommend uninstalling FF7 completely, then running RegSeeker to make sure all traces of it are erased, then rebooting and reistalling...

Well, I let everything sit for a few days, then cleaned the comp again through the means I'm used to, then ran the programs Volatile recommended, and now... it works! *faints*

What do you mean by that? Surely FF7 is for at least win95?
