The setup: I am using a yahoo email account and download it to my computer with Mac mail.

Twice this past week either yahoo or my email program has decided to download every email message I have on the yahoo server, which is about 22,000 messages dating back to January 2005.

I'd like to blame my email program, but both time I have done this an email at the end says 'Welcome to Yahoo email BETA'.

Has something like this every happened to anyone? Is it going to keep happening?

Did it download all mail or just email from your inbox? I store my yahoo mail in folders and I use Mac mail I have only ever had POP mail download again from active inboxes.

When you check e-mail it gets tagged that it's already checked so you don't download it again. This tag would be on the Yahoo servers. It's possible they updated something that removed the tags or reset them. Also, even though you don't check mail online it may be a good idea to delete you mail once in a while. 22,000 messages is a bit much and will prevent a large download like this in the future.

Well, I waited until there was nothing in the inbox online and tossed it all into another folder. Ugly, but it was better than going through all those emails by hand.

Did you ever signup for yahoo's email beta?

I did for the last one, but I think they dragooned me into this one.
