Phelps is once again trying to get an anti-gay monument placed in the city of Casper, Wyoming.

Here is a link to the article (http://www.trib.com/articles/2007/07/17/news/casper/88d8fdf4b4e017548725731b00006a13.txt) with comments from readers, and here is a quote:

On Monday morning, the city dedicated a historical monument plaza, which includes the Ten Commandments, the Declaration of Independence, the Mayflower Compact, the Magna Carta, the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Phelps said he would be willing to make his monument resemble the six others and would include a picture of Shepard and the engraving: "MATTHEW SHEPARD, Entered Hell October 12, 1998, at age 21, in Defiance of God's Warning: 'Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is abomination.' Leviticus 18:22."

You know what?

I say let him do it. Let him pay for a nice little monument to his bigotry.

Then, sometime late at night, perhaps a few guys with pickaxes would show up.

And if Phelps didn't like it, he can shell out the money for another one. Maybe something will happen to that one, too.

I wonder; does the good Mr. Phelps ever believe that anyone is capable of repenting and going to heaven? Christians believe that everyone sins and is therefore condemned to die, but anyone can repent their sins no matter how terrible and gain entrance into heaven.

One would think the Phelps clan does not believe this at all. All that hate has to be giving some of them an ulcer (I hope).

Any bets on whether or not the church they belong to will die with his death?

He actually doesn't. His church belives in determinism. God has already decided whether you're going be gay or not and whether you're going to repent or not. People like my (gay and not gonna change) were made specifically to be destroyed.
And this is worth worshiping for some reason.

I offer to find, purchase, and then donate a butt plug for his exhibit. What color goes well with "flaming a-hole?"

Hot pink would definitely be Fred's color.

Phelps is one seriously ****** up personality. It's as though the only emotion his brain is capable of precessing is hatred. Not only does he spew hate at everything around him, but he seems to have a genuine need to be hated by everyone around him. It's like hate is a twisted substitute for love in his mind. He just says the most outrageous, despicable, disgusting thing his malevolent mind can conceive of in order to generate the most negative response he can get.

That's the impression I got from his kid on the Infidel Guy show. There was an unpleasant interview. Someone linked it recently in another post. I'll ETA this one when I find it.

ETA: Found it:
Here, our very own InfidelGuy took one for the team and interviewed Tim Phelps. (http://infidelguy.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=182063)

Reggie,

We had an almost identical type of rabid wanker over here - Graham Capill.

What a surprise it was to everyone (especially his flock) when he was arrested and convicted on half a dozen counts of molesting and raping little girls.

His defence? It was consensual - with 8-12 year old girls.

Wonder what Phelps' closet hides?

I read an interview with an estranged Phelps son who fled, literally, in the very first second of the day of his eighteenth birthday. It seems Pastor Fred's own flock is hardly spared the abuse that he vomits on the world at large. In fact they have it much worse as each of his estranged children describe him as violently abusive toward his own family.

And this is worth worshiping for some reason.

It's actually quite Biblical:

"Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it,Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonor? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory" (Rom. 9:20-23).

If God wants to make people specifically to send to hell, He can do it.
He's God like that and there's not a damnthing you can say about it. God can do whatever He wants to do. Or something.

That's what I like about WBC...they just come right out and say the things that are sort of unspoken yet accepted in mainstream fundamentalism. They take those principals all the way to their wacked-out logical end, and make no apologies about it.

Identical to Phelps? I find that hard to believe. He seems to have had real supporters and is more like Falwell or something than Phelps.

Yeah. Most of us "straight and comfortable with it" folks just kind of shrug our shoulders about the whole "gay thing". It is a little "gross", I guess, but no big deal(the same way that I'm almost sure that gay people feel about straight sex... and everyone feels about thinking about their parents having sex :jaw-dropp )

Someone who devotes his life to attacking something that should really kind of be no big deal to him, and should absolutely be none of his concern, points to some sort of internal psychological distress over the issue.

Well, I wouldn't use the word "like". However, I would absolutely say that they are the truest Christians in the public eye in America today. They really are the true face of Christianity.

I didn't mean that I literally like them. They're repulsive. But I guess I respect their honesty.

Yes, they are the true face of Christianity. They're the only ones with the balls to actually say exactly what they think.

And, really, if you get yourself among them, and they think you are one of them, a whole lot of them will say exactly what Phelps is saying. It is, in my experience, an outright lie to claim that Phelps is a "fringe element". The only thing "fringe" about him is his honesty. The poison in his heart is pretty mainstream among Christians.

Whoa, whoa, whoa -- I shouldn't lie with my husband, but with a woman?

Oh wait, I forgot. This is the Bible. It's not talking to me, because I'm just an object. Silly me!

No, no...maybe god really loves lesbians?
I mean, if male gay sex and AIDS is proof that god hates gayness, and lesbians basically never give each other HIV, it should follow that God Loves Lesbians! Hates fags, loves dikes.

It's all coming together now...

I'd contend that Phelps is nowhere near honest at all. If being "Christian" means doing unto others as you would have them do unto you (i.e. being a good person, faithful and honest partner, and a kind neighbour), then Phelps is none of these things. He beat his wife and children (maybe still does) while pretending he didn't, he lies about that, he misrepresents the faith he supposedly espouses...there's nothing honest in Phelps at all!

He is patently wacko. But with the cunning of a fox, he uses his nastiness to build publicity for his hateful ways. Although nowadays it is his equally wacko daughter trying to carry the torch...the same daughter he used to beat up on when she was a child, so guess how mushy her brain is!

The monument... I'd suggest allowing it to be built at his expense, but on a giant plinth so the whole world can see it. And on that plinth would be all the Phelps' names in full, and their compound address, phone numbers and all the other contact information. In nice easy-to-read brass that cannot be eradicated, in blinking red lights. Then everyone will know exactly who built this, and exactly where they can be found... ;)

How frustrating to be a gay god and have no one to play with, let along love...

First things first. First we put a large stone on top of Phelps and then we argue over what to write on it.

There should be an organization started whose function is to educate soldiers returning from war about people like Phelps, so when the few of those actually do flip and look for someone to kill, they'll know exactly who.

Capill is nothing like Phelps.

The only difference is the level of vitriol - the projection and self-loathing are identical.

The reason Capill never went quite as far as Phelps is simply that our laws don't allow for hate speech. Had Capill been born in USA, he would have been Phelps' favourite son. Not to mention that Capill is demonstrably worse to date. I don't see Phelps in jail for child-rape.

I've heard that most adults in the Phelps clan are lawyers. So the Phelps first trolls people IRL just to get a angry and/or violent response. Then the Phelps start to sue their vicitms.

Anyone who knows if this is more than just a rumor.?

They try to do that, and it makes them even MORE despicable (if that's at all possible!). I gather in most cases the "payoff" is airtime on TV, or publication in some newspaper. In other words, they harrass people into doing their publicity.

Never mind - Phelps will be dead soon, and it will all fall apart.
