Force Full Screen Apps into Window?

I have an application....

oh, all right, I have the original Starcraft which plays full screen and does not have a "Windowed" option like more modern games do. It seems to me that it ought to be possible to run full screen apps like this in a VM or remote desktop like window to force it to be windowed rather than taking over my entire screen.

Is anyone aware of something existing out there already that does this?

There was at one time a utility called Starwindow that patched the game to run in a window. If it's still around that's likely your best bet.

I've never tried it but this site (http://www.creepcolony.com/utilities.shtml) has a link to a program called StarWindow that claims to do what you want.

I've no idea if it works with Starcraft, but some games can be launched in a window with a -w option from the command line as an unsupported sort of thing and isn't otherwise mentioned in the graphics options.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who has moved on from Windows. :)
