Usually any "cause" eventually requires compromise with the group and dedication to a belief. I would think that in general, atheists and rational thinkers are more likely to shy away from that.

This is a problem for the success of rationalist philosophy in a world where it seems like you need a large group speaking with one voice to be taken seriously.

Looking at the shirts again, I just realized that there's a lot of people who probably don't know who Dawkins is, anyway.

What good is a 'statement', if you have to explain it every time you turn around?

The A i don't have any problems with, and any questions would lead to hopefully a conversation..sometimes..lol

But i have a problem with the web address on there, to me this seems to be pushing one mans name , which gives the notion of some sort of leader etc, and I see enough Jesus t-shirt around already.

I have nothing against Dawkins, i would feel the same way if it said
samharris.org
hitchings.net etc etc

All who i enjoy reading, but making out to be some focal point..... seems to skate very close to... well you know.

I don't mind wearing a shirt that shows I am atheist, but i am not in rush to advertise the idea that I need another man to be able to think for myself.

As much as I may agree with Dawkin's sentiment and an need for an "atheist pride" movement, I'm not big on symbols. As I said elsewhere, actions speak louder. Declare your atheism, don't shirk from it, and be ready to defend your disbelief (not to mention, your rights) from those who seek to to marginalize you.

The trouble is, the other side is going to always equate one with the other, so you might as well make atheism a cause and get it over with.

It'd be a bit hypocritical of me to bear it considering crosses etc. annoy me. I'd probably only ever bear it in the company of like-minded people.

For me, it would be a balance of wanting to express my thoughts, and weighing it against the hassle that might come my way from people who don't appreciate the fact that I like to think on my own once in a while.

I will not buy such a shirt for the reason I don't buy any such logo bearing shirts. I generaly can't find one that fits.

Why should wanting a shirt to be 38" down the back in say a 3xl seems to be such an impossible demand I have no understanding of.
