Gary Popkin has offered me the opportunity to do two call-in shows. Would you prefer to stick to the interview format, discussing Willie Rodriguez and Kevin Ryan, or would you like to field calls from, presumably, irate twoofers?
We could, of course, do one of each.
What do other JREFers think?

Taking calls would be cool. Let the twoofers talk, then pick apart their flawed arguments one-by-one.

I'd love to see Mark do a call in, that has great potential.

Taking calls would be fun and would make for a livelier show. It might mean covering tired old ground, though, since the callers would be choosing the topics and might consist entirely of ignoramuses. How about this: every time a truther says the word "impossible," we have to take a shot of Jack?

I think you'll need a sponsor for that kind of budget.

Hey, you remember that business with the hoses from last December?

Be expecting calls like "we know you work for the NWO..and you will be held accountable for your crimes!!"

That's kind of the upper range of my expectations.

You know, the more I think about it, this sounds like fun!

I think the interview style debates are much better than the call in idea would be. But I guess you won't know till you try it out.
The interview style has worked great for the last three shows and quite a bit of good information has been covered.

In that case you'd better have paramedics on hand with detox equipment.

Any show hosted by moi has paramedics with detox equipment on hand. It's part of my NWO contract.

ah, I didn't think about that. It's Ron and your choice, call in shows could be pretty entertaining, maybe Killtown and Ace Baker will call :)
-ETA-
Ok, now that I've thought about it for a few minutes, a few call in shows are a great idea, not sure how many prank calls will come in though.

How about interview style to lead off, followed by a call in portion?
E.g. If the subject matter is Rodriguez, the first half of the show could be interview style (Ron interviewing Mark and Mark setting out the evidence), and the second half could be call-in style with the twoofers blowing gaskets and being set straight by Mark.
Likewise, if the subject matter is Ryan, the first half of the show could be interview style (Ron interviewing Mark and Mark setting out the evidence), and the second half could be call-in style with (you guessed it) twoofers blowing gaskets and being set straight.
I'll even pitch in some cash to help with the JD tab. :)

Would the call ins be pre screened to stay on topic? much like talk radio? Otherwise i see troofers constantly changing the subject and derailing the flow. a train wreck.

I think Mark's caution was accurate- it's going to be the same old stuff... the claims that were debunked ages ago.
The only dial-a-skeptic show I can think of on this topic was the time that Shermer was on C-SPAN, and that's exactly what happened. Some people would even repeat what other callers had said, thinking that adding an additional point to it would suddenly make it become true.
I certainly like the idea of an interactive show... but how you could make it interesting without screening the calls is beyond me.

It's worth a try, I suppose, but my impression is that the word is out for the top Deniers to avoid direct dealing with the Debunkers. Rob Bishop told me that he had record listeners during my debate with Bermas; and yet somehow I have not been invited on his show again, or any other "Truther" radio show for that matter. I suppose it's a compliment although I rated my performance average.

I can't say I'd relish the opportunity to listen to a tirade of nonsense from a hyperventilating 'truther'.
And how would you handle the predictable profanity? Short of requesting that Mark curbs his language, of course.:D

The normal procedure for any call-in format is that someone "vets" the callers and the questions. Of course, it's always possible to get through by pretending to have a rational question; witness the countless times Larry King and others were greeted by, "Howard Stern is God, Man!"
The good thing about the vetting process, though, is that it keeps the truly paranoid at bay. Imagine Killtown being told to hold for several minutes? "They're tracking me! I'm outta here!"

not always. I´ve called up twice recently (Mike Rivero´s WRH on TOGI), and wasn´t asked anything other than my first name.
However, there was roughly a minute delay before it was aired, in case I started swearing or said anything too mad.

Is there somewhere that I can watch this? Someone linked to it before but it didn't work.

I would only take calls if Ron has a button that can cut off the volume on the caller until Mark has finished answering the callers question. If not, the twoofers will simply try to drown out anything Mark has to say.

I went to c-span.org and just did a video search for Shermer, it's the only video that comes up. I don't have realplayer installed, so I'm not sure if it's working or not.
