Just a stupid question.

Why is football called football in England, but soccer in US? They could call their game American football, and our version just plain football :p

For that matter, why call it football at all? During the course of a game, plays that involve the foot making contact with the ball are in the minority. Most of the time the ball is either carried or thrown. Let's just make up a new name for the sport that fits its true nature. "Bloodball" works for me.
