View Full Version : LC Forum Thread: Disclosure of LC Store

I can't say I've been on this forum very long so I don't know all the topics that have been debated back and forth between JREF and LC forum members but I though this thread was pretty amusing if nothing else.

Eventually all I ask is that they answer one very simply question: What reason is there for not publicly disclosing the amount of money the LC Store has made? The answers to just this one question are hilarious. To me at least.
Also I don't know very much about laws or requirements concerning businesses and reporting their yearly profits. I thought that the makers of LC made themselves into the company Louder Than Words. Perhaps someone here can tell me if there would be any law or something of that nature requiring their company to disclose their profits.

If they are a private company then no, except to the state and federal tax offices

I guess morally speaking, your opposition on that thread is correct. Since anyone with any sense at all can find it on the 'net, sales of the DVD amount to a "donation." Either that or an "idiot tax."
T-shirts, not the same argument.
Technically, of course, since Looser Than Words LLC is not a non-profit, those are all taxable receipts regardless of the spirit in which monies were sent.
I'm not a tax attorney and I have no evidence pro or con their compliance with IRS requirements. I would, however, advise them to be careful about those things, if they aren't already.

Well being able to watch it online for free isn't really the same thing as having your own physical DVD. Though I guess they do give you the means to make your own DVD label so you can basically make your own. They also have a separate icon you can click on to make an actual donation.

Has anyone registered the business name "Louder Than Worms" yet?

"Lower Than Worms" would be more appropriate for the loose change boyz.

I look at his proceeds as being donations for a job well done.
Actually, this is probably the case. The only customers purchasing the DVD would be truthers who have already seen it online for free and are "supporting the movement" by lining Dylan's pockets.
The key here is the point you made: People don't buy it unless they have seen it - so the free online downloads are just marketing.
You might like to point out to him that, last we heard from Dylan (and this goes back to the Mark Cuban days, so may no longer be the case), LC:FC was only going to be (legally) downloadable as a pay-per-view.
Good point from R. Mackey about the T-shirts.
ETA: I thought about raising this issue at LCF before, but assumed it would result in an insta-banTM. I'm surprised that hasn't happened (yet).

Yeah I am surprised too. I think its because its in the skeptic section instead of any other part. Does anyone know if it's still the case that LC: FC is only downloadable as pay-per-view?

I'm sure that's how they would like to release it, but I'm sure it'll quickly be available on YouTube and other seedy Internet sources. If it ever gets done (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Nukem_Forever), of course.

Can you imagine parents who get the cable bill and ask why their kids ordered a $19.99 NR rated pay per view movie called Loose Change: Final Cut?

To which the proper childhood defense would be "No, it was just porn, I swear!"
