"Gas prices in California are the highest in the nation," said Bustamante, who is the leading Democratic candidate running to replace Gov. Gray Davis in the Oct. 7 recall election. "Californians are being gouged and under current law, we are powerless to do anything about it."
Never mind the fact we also have highest regulation in the nation that costs a bundle, never mind that every other month there is a commission somewhere proving again and again that gouging is a myth, he still comes out and says that. If he gets elected (and I hope he does not), I could just see those long lines forming at gas stations that have no gas.

LOL
My jaw dropped when I heard this. Sad part is, that with the Republican vote being split 3 ways, Bustamante may just win. Personally, I don't think Arnold is the best man for the job, but I think he is the most electable and is sort of a moderate on many issues, which could ease California back into a more conservative approach. I think Arnold would have the greatest chance of uniting the state legislature right now.
Davis is begging for help from Clinton. (http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/08/10/calif.recall.davis/index.html)

And now those slippery state legislators are trying to pull a fast one by making it easier to raise taxes.

Not to mention the fact that, at 48¢/gal, California has one of the largest gasoline tax rates in the country (once Federal and all other taxes are included). Why would people think that wouldn't affect the price at the pump?
