Hello,

on the 24th of December, 2003, at around 20:00 plus/minus 30 minutes, while heading to Tijuana, from Ensenada, my wife and I saw something odd in the sky. It looked similar to Pacman, like in the image I've attached to this post.

What was really weird is that it LOOKED really big, and it was just over the sea/horizon, in the general direction I've drawn on the picture (I was driving "north" on the picture).

I still believe that it was the Moon, but maybe it wasn't.

I know there has to be a program or website that could tell me what was on the sky that night, and see if it was the Moon. I have no knowledge whatsoever on these matters, and if someone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

Google maps coordinates of place of sighting (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=ensenada,+mexico&ie=UTF8&t=k&om=1&ll=31.979031,-116.778574&spn=0.030505,0.031929&z=15)

Thanks.

On that night, the thin crescent moon (which was also exibiting considerable earthshine on its dark portion) was low in the west, with Venus close by (see http://www.space.com/spacewatch/venus_christmas_031219.html ). Judging by the time and position of your sighting, I'd suspect you saw one or a combination of both objects.

ETA: I love Baja BTW. The last time I was there was to view the solar eclipse in 1991 (http://www.mreclipse.com/SEphoto/TSE1991/TSE1991galleryA.html), one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

Thanks, Stellafane. It very could've been the Moon and Venus.

Now, if someone could help me figure out the coordinates to put in this website:

http://www.fourmilab.ch/yoursky/

and actually "see" what was in the sky that day.

Are you certain you really visited Baja, and didn't just imagine it, recalling it now as a 'real-life' event?!? How can you be sure you really saw the solar eclipse there?

Indeed...it may be a planted memory that either the visitors put in his head or the MIB did, in order to make him THINK he was seeing an eclipse when in fact he was seeing a Rigellian mother ship.

With an order of fries.

Damn, you and Southwind may have a point. My ass did feel quite sore afterward. And all along I thought it was from sitting all those hours in the car driving there and back. Damn those sneaky anal-probing aliens! Well, at least they planted a pleasant false memory for once.
